thanks, I've amended it. The major point is that these cars did NOT come with the JDM engine and so they are more akin to the USDM SI and / or RSX-S. While the ITR and gen 1 CTR were much closer to their JDM counterparts as well as the new FK2 2015+ CTR.

I just hope Honda will make one version of the CTR for the global market and not cripple it. Since the North American market will still get the SI, it would make sense then for the NA market to get the "real" Type R.

thanks, I make no claim to know much about UK cars. The major point is that these cars did NOT come with the JDM engine and so they are more akin to the USDM SI and / or RSX-S. While the ITR and gen 1 CTR were much closer to their JDM counterparts as well as the new FK2 2015+ CTR.
The FK2 R is unique in that there isn't a true JDM version. It was later imported from the UK after the initial UK release.

The same can be said about the UK FN2. It's on a completely different chassis compared to the JDM FD2. They just so happened to be sold at the same time.

It appears Honda is moving away from a hardcore JDM Type R and moving towards a global R. I suppose it's difficult to make a JDM CTR since Honda of Japan discontinued selling the Civic for the past couple of years. It's interesting that they're going to bring back the Civic in the form of a hatch.

Interesting pricing data point from Honda Australia:

http://www.motormag.com.au/news/1608/honda-civic-type-r-arriving-2017-from-sub-50k

Before you spew your drink out your nose I'll do the currency conversion for you: $50k AUD is $38k USD. So "in the forties" AUD is $30.5k to $38k USD -- a pretty big range. With the Focus RS at $36k USD (if they ever ship them!) and the assertion from that article that the CTR will be competing with the RS I'm guessing it will come in around the same price like the current CTR does in the UK today.

Although anything is possible, It's very doubtful that a direct conversion from UK to US will apply. You can simpply use a US CRV vs a UK CRV and see for yourself that it doesn't work that way. The US always pays less for cars then the rest of the world, just the way it is. I don't doubt a 35k range, but not much more then that.

I don't know if this has been done, but I was curious to compare the last type-r we got on our shores (DC2) to today's prices. If it were released at the $24,000 msrp, in today's dollars, that would be roughly $35,984. Hopefully the Honda will come in closer to its cousin's original price and undercut the competition of things like the STI and RS. After all, you are getting 2-less powered wheels.

I think this will be close to it (33-35k, I hope) any higher and unfortunately for me will not be as appealing due to similarly priced vehicles having an AWD option

I believe it'll be under 35k. Hell the Mugen Si was 29k when it came out and that was way overpriced since the original si was 6-7k less.

If the Type-R comes in for 32k-34k I will strongly consider getting it but if the new M2, Focus RS, and 4Runner TRD Pro are anything to go by, locating the car will be the biggest thing keeping me from getting it. I need a car January-ish.

Well, not sure how much this means in the grand scheme of things, but I found this online today. The 19inch wheel and drilled rotors are listed with a "spring 2017" release timeframe, I would assume based on this that there would be a model to take advantage of these, releasing around the same time?

This is listed as an HFP wheel but I do realize it's the standard size on the TypeR...

Good to finally get tire sizes. Now I can start pricing winter tire/wheel combinations! haha. If only I knew what wheels will fit over the TypeR brakes...

2 thoughts from me:

1: Honda Pro Jason just did a weekend with HPD and a brake package was part of the HPD package. -it was a Brembo kit plus a 19" Enkei wheel. (Honda uses Enkei as their OE supplier)

2: This will be the part number for brake rotors on the new R. The wheel for the R should be a 19" size.

(or this could be the part number for both the HPD Civic package and the R)

That is great info! I didn't realize Honda Pro Jason had any videos since the last couple he did a few weeks back.

Could you potentially link to the HPJ video?
