Wow, wonder who makes the Touring speakers? They look pretty good quality for a factory upgrade.. I don't think i'll be considering a speaker upgrade now that i've seen what they look like.. Not cheap paper like I assumed.

Pioneer - they're Kevlar woofer's but just because they look cool doesn't mean they're good lol

Slowly but surely, its getting there. I'm working on it a little everyday. So far I got the front doors dynamated, speakers installed, new speaker wires ran to the speakers in the doors. Going to dynamat the trunk a little, mount the amp (found a cool solution for that, I'll take a pic of it when it mounted), and then mount the sub. I'll work on it a little today, but its so darn nice out, I'll probably spend the better part of the day driving around in the Vette. Hope to have it all done sometime next week.

Here is all the equipment I bought:

AudioControl LC2i line output converter: http://www.audiocontrol.com/car-audio/factory-system-upgrade/lc2i/

AudioFrog GS10 1" Tweeter: http://www.audiofrog.com/gs10-1-25mm-premium-grade-automotive-tweeter/

AudioFrog GS60 6.5" Midrange: http://www.audiofrog.com/gs60-premium-grade-automotive-midrange-loudspeaker/

Kicker IQ 1000.5 5 Channel Amp: http://www.kicker.com/41IQ10005

Kicker L7 QB8 Loaded Enclosure: http://www.kicker.com/L7QB8_subwoofer_enclosure

That amp has built in crossovers, time alignment and 31 band EQ. I'll connect the tweeters to channels 1/2 and the midranges to 3/4 and the 5th channel will be the sub. The sub is also pretty neat, its fairly small, 9"x9"x11" but handles good power (500watts). If I was better at doing this stuff, it would be done already. Hopefully some pics and impressions will come later next week.
That L7 is like $800... lol You sure didn't hold back on the pocket books with this install. Very cleanly done though.

Pioneer definitely makes the base 8 speaker system but are you sure about the Premium Audio? I've had reports that Panasonic makes it.

The HU is Mitsubishi. The amplifier is, apparently, Pioneer. The tuner unit is Panasonic. Don't know who makes the touchscreen. See zero reason the speakers can't be Pioneer, or whoever was low bid for that matter.

If you've seen the products I've used in the past on installs, you'd know this is pretty "light" for me, lol. Thanks though, I was trying to make it a clean install that sounds great.

Probably right about Panasonic making the speakers, they make the ELS system for Acura, probably make the base system as well.

How does this sound compared to the regular line of L7's? For the price premium I hope it has a good response rate.

Honestly, I can't compare them. I never was a Kicker fan, always regarded them to be an SPL company and laughed at the idea of a square woofer. My friend geared me towards the IQ line with that amp since it has a 31 band EQ per channel and fully adjustable crossovers and time alignment built in. I was impressed with the amp so I tried the sub based on my friends recommendation of it. I have to say its pretty impressive. Its 9"x9"x11", so its very small. It handles 500 watts and it has a passive radiator, similar to what you might find in a home theater sub.

The last car I had an install in was my 2005 Accord. I had a JL Audio 13TW5 in a custom fiberglass enclosure running off of a JL HD 900/5, and that thing sounded nice and played low. I have to say that this Kicker sounds very similar to that 13TW5. Plays very low and gets uncomfortably loud.

And I paid a lot less than the $800 retail price...

My ears (I'm a music producer/studio engineer) + the fact that there was almost zero output under 90 Hz with my 500w RMS amp cranked to max and two subs until I installed the audio control lc2i

The stock system is a sad farce IMO
Ugh, that sucks, but thanks for sharing. I am/was planning to buy a Touring to be able to get a flat signal out of it without having to do bass restoration with something like an LC2i. With Accords, the models without a sub have a bass roll-off like that but the models with a sub don't, as I understand it. I assumed the Civic would be the same.

Did you tap your signal before the factory amp or after it?

If you have access to an RTA and are so inclined, it'd be great if you could RTA the stock Touring headunit's output. Well, I guess you'd need to do two measurements, one of the front speakers and one of the sub.

I'll measure it when I tune it, but I will wait until it's warmer (April?)

Both the front/rear speakers and sub output have DSP on them for sure.

Also, the lc2i resolved it handily so it's not a huge deal. I'm surprised at how effective that little box was.

I'm debating between the EX-L and the Touring, and while I wouldn't consider myself an audiophile, having a clear sound system with punchy bass is a big deal to me. After test driving the Touring, I was surprisingly underwhelmed by the "premium" sound system. My slightly upgraded system in my 2008 Civic (detailed at the end of this post) sounds *much* better.

With that said, I'm wondering if I should just go with the EX and add an aftermarket sub...

My questions are these:

1) If I'm going to add an aftermarket, powered sub regardless of which trim I purchase, is there any reason to go with the Touring over the EX? Does having a dedicated wire for the sub (Touring model) give me any benefit? Or will simply tapping into the rear speaker wire on the EX suffice?

2) Does the head unit offer much by way of EQing? Tweaking the EQ on my aftermarket Pioneer HU made the stock speakers on my '08 sound *worlds* better...

3) Any recommendations for a good ($200-$400) powered sub? I currently have a Pioneer AVH-4000NEX + Rockford Fosgate P300-10 in my '08 Civic and am decently happy with it. The sub doesn't have as much punch as I'd like (it feels a little soft/muddy), but it's still FAR better than the stock/no-sub system (and I can't really complain for $150). Still, I'm hoping for more punch in this next install and would welcome any recommendations.

I appreciate high sound quality (not an audiophile though) and I find the Touring system to be very good. I also think the entire Touring insulation was superior compared with other trims, which also adds to the SQ imho. So, imo there's a definite SQ improvement over other trims. I also have had no problem with a rattling sub.
If you were underwhelmed with the Touring Sound system that you drove, I'd drive another different Touring Civic. You may have driven an anomaly. Just my $.02.

The main advantage is the separate sub output on the touring HU. The system has basically no low-end so if that is the only consideration, save $2K and get the EX-T.

I personally like the leather and the look of the touring better, and the headlights are great so I have no regrets on that front. The stock sound system is not good though.

Okay, so there is a separate output on the HU? Using that for my after-market sub would be better than just tapping a rear speaker, right? And I hear you on the leather—If I don't go for the touring, I'd go for the EX-L.
