2017 Honda Civic Sedan EX with Honda Sensing - White Orchid
Hi guys,

I just joined the forum today because I'm planning on buying a new Civic sometime soon (would be a first time Civic owner). This seems like a pretty cool place. I'm a huge fan of the 2016 Civic Sedan and am also really liking what I'm seeing regarding the 2017 Civic Hatchback.

Being that I'm in the market, and it's almost September, here's my question: is Honda releasing a 2017 Sedan model as well, or will the 2016 be the only Sedan version available for another year or so? If a 2017 Sedan is indeed coming out, I think I'd potentially opt for that vs. the 2017 Hatchback.

I appreciate your help in advance!

I'm sure they are going to be releasing a 2017 sedan, but it will likely be almost the exact same thing as the 2016

This is what I figured. However, I'd possibly still be interested unless the release date is more than a couple of months away.

The pictures of the interior look identical.
Where did you find pictures of the 2017 Sedan's interior? I've struggled to find anything regarding that model online at all...

Yes, since the 2016 model was a MAJOR redesign, there will not really be any changes to the 2017 model lineup!

They may offer different colors or something!

They will come out with the Civic Si for 2017, which I think will be offered in all body styles (sedan, coupe, hatchback)

They will also off a Civic Si Type R as well, but those I assume are limited!

Yeah, I figured that the 2017 model would barely have any changes due to the major redesign with the 2016 model. I think I'm just one of those people that would prefer to have the *newest* available, even if there's no substantive difference from the last model (haha).

Allegedly, rumor has it that they may put a volume knob on the head units in the 17s, which may be why the head unit in the hatch has a different part number than the sedan or coupes. Think I heard it in one of the many YouTube review videos I've seen.

Your best bet is to purchase a 2017 as the 2016 was a new design/platform. This allows the assembly line and/or any issue to be addressed and updated/fixed. While the 2016 has very few "bugs", the 2017 will be even better. Honda has a pretty good track record for new release models, but if you can wait and buy a 2017, it's a smart move as year one kinks get worked out.

I very much doubt it, that change is not nearly as simple as it sounds and while many would prefer a volume knob, it's not strictly necessary. There are many considerations and potential problems with adding a knob, especially one tied into the infotainment computer.

They might fix a few things about the 2016 model that didn't get caught: rear window fogging (possibly from brake light), Touring subwoofer rattle, numerous glitches in infotainment and door locking, possibly stronger/thicker windshield glass (a number of people including me have had a fully cracked windshield from tiny pebble hits/chips), etc.

the 17 will definitely not look too different but i think we are all forgetting the biggest change to the 17 sedan will be the turbo MT option... thats a huge difference..... other then that possibly a hybrid? maybe new rims? but regardless just wait it out for the 17! i really wish I would've waited, knowing and having this grinding noise is crap, maybe the 17s will be fixed who knows

I'm guessing you're asking if Honda would go through most of 2017 calender year with a 2016 model year sedan? Not a remote chance. They only do that for cars that are phasing out like the Insight. I recall seeing it listed into this year (2016) but as a 2014 model if I recall correctly. It's off the site now.

Hopefully Honda is addressing some of these buggy issues that are coming up like apparent self-cracking windshields.

It might not be that complicated. It looks like they did it with the 2017 crv from spyshots leaked.

This is bullshit, on our cars we have a climate button and there's a 1.5cm gap on both sides until you hit the temp knobs. So instead of those, we could've had fan speed and vent mode buttons (just ONE 'mode' button, not 5 different mode buttons), then have all the climate setting permanently displayed on the top bar on the screen. What a waste of space.
