Get ready CivicX fans... Honda has just announced that the 2017 Civic 5-door Hatchback will be arriving to North America this Fall!

I waited with baited breath for the new Coupe thinking I would buy it as soon as it became available. When I test drove it, I was absolutely in love with the feel, the turbo, the rear end design, etc. But I realized I yearned for the practicality of 4 doors but I didn't like the non-sporty look of a sedan; so I has thrilled to hear the Hatchback was being brought back! I agree with another comment that I wish it were shorter/more traditionally hatchback looking, but knowing how great it will handle, still looks pretty sporty and has the extra doors that I want, I really do expect to purchase one in the Fall. Now, do I get Crystal Black Pearl or Lunar Silver Metallic...decisions, decisions!

The Australian version looks more like a hatchback/less like a sedan and the rear door handles are hidden. But I prefer our rear to theirs!

That's the current 9th generation Civic model. Not the prettiest car, but I prefer the overall smaller dimensions of the 9th gen over the one the world is about to get soon. The new model is too long and looks like a mini station wagon. With car sizes spiraling out of control, the idea of the "pocket rocket" is lost.

Fun fact, the Sport Touring model with the 18s has the same tire width as the current FK2 Type-R. 235/35R19 on the CTR and 235/40R18 on the Sport Touring. It will be interesting to see if the upcoming CTR has wider tires than the outgoing model. This is interesting as the more performance-oriented models typically have larger tires, however the Sport Touring hatch has seemingly the same tire width as the spied Si as well.

I agree; I like the smaller size, too.

Same, i really just don't need a 5 door. Plus the slight uptick in cost on the hatches compared to the coupe/sedans. And in my mind nothing beats the coupe's full width tail light either. But those wheels on the hatch are super stylish.
Yes, that wide tail light is what's missing from the hatchback. That is an awesome feature.

All part of the globalization of the civic. The new platform underpins all civic models now as where the 9th gen hatch was riding on the Fit platform. In terms of growth the coupe is actually shorter than the 9th gen model was. Lower. A little wider. The sedan grew about 3 inches in length. The hatch grew the most from the 9th, but that's mostly due to the new platform. But from what I've hear despite the visual appearance of length the hatch civic is actually about the length of the coupe which is 5 inches shorter than the sedan. The increased width isn't a bad thing as it assists in better handling. And the roof got lower on all models. And weight on all models went down (except touring, no word on hatch weights yet). The big difference with the hatchs styling is that it was designed by Honda UK and Japan as where the coupe/sedan were designed in the USA. (Hatches will sell most in Europe) so it was important they get the styling on point for European buyers, hence its a bit polarizing for US buyers I think, but we will be buying a small fraction of the hatches compared to Europe.

Saw this online...not a great shot, but it's the tail end of a black one. Got my attention!

Can't wait for sema auto show Honda should announce the Si model there. Interested on seeing what motor it will have. My guess is a more beef up 1.5 turbo engine.

It's not the worst thing I've seen, but overall I was hoping for something else. The design just looks disjointed to me, like they bolted a new back onto an existing body, which is pretty much exactly what they did. It doesn't look cohesive, as if it were designed as one piece. Not taking the rear lights all the way across that spoiler is a bizarre decision. And too many fiddly trim bits, especially in the back. Sometimes less is more, Honda.

At least the black minimizes the negative impact of all the trim pieces. It makes it look a little cleaner.

The pics in the press release does nothing for me really, the front 3/4 shot looks weird IMO but the pic in future cars on Honda's website has me wanting one. As mentioned, the darker colors I think really work well camouflaging the "advertised" honeycomb vents.
I'm wondering how roof rails would have looked like, works well with the Impreza hatch IMO

The car is already pretty busy. Roof rails would be too much.
