That's what I don't get. If these cars are really in production and are getting loaded on docks, why do we only have two pictures? Wouldn't you think there would be more?

I guess it seems strange in a way, but I don't doubt they are being loaded and on their way as reported. I think we're just existing in a bit of a bubble.

I want that bubble to burst though, and to see pics and read about a civic hatch 6mt optioned exactly how I'd like. I'd also like to read about the enterprising startup who has engineered and fabricated the aftermarket, paint-specific covers for those silly fake rear-bumper "vents." While I'm quite please with the civic platform's stylings, I'm also not vain in the least - I happily drive my 16 yr old honda v-6 Accord. But as a mid-40's guy who likes a bit of power, a bit of comfort and the function of a hatch, those stupid vents are pushing my limits. Argh. I've been waiting for this hatch, and THOSE "VENTS!!!!"

I really like the new HB, but the more I look at it, the more I absolutely hate the bumpers. That's probably what would keep me from getting one. Now, if it had the Coupe bumpers, I'd have to do some serious thinking.

I recently called a dealership and they said they might not even take out the SI and just take out the Type-R since there is already a 2.0 and a 1.5T out my guess is the Type-T will have the 2.0T

Lol. I can identify. Waiting patiently myself, driving a 16 year old Civic Si. Those vents ARE a bit tacky and not up to par with the rest of the car by the way. Here's hoping for more news soon.

They're on their way!
Interesting in the video that HPJ said the Civic Hatchbacks were shipping over on a cargo ship called the "Drive Green Highway" and not the "Orion Highway." Maybe they were shipped on both? Or is the Drive Green Highway another name for the Orion Highway?

I like how he immediately debunked the idea that the Type R is going to have more than 340bhp

Definitely.
He doesn't address (or destroy) the possibility of Honda doing a Golf/'ring-killer limited run to take back the title...

Cant wait for the hatchback. Wonder what the specs are going to look like. I purchased a Sedan EX a few months back but I'm going to need another car next year. Hopefully hatchback will be good to go by then and have all the issues worked out if there are any.

The idea of having a Sport Touring Hatch with the 1.5T (HP unknown at this point; bump to 200 perhaps?) seems like it would step on the toes of an Si hatch variant IF the Si indeed will get a version of the 1.5T with 210-220HP. This would make me think that the Si would be better positioned in the line up with a more powerful version of the 2.0T; 230 - 250?. I know a lot of people think otherwise, but just thinking out loud here. Especially if the AutoWeek article is correct that the CTR will have a bump to 340HP, then the Si with 2.0T at 268HP seems quite reasonable and a great fit in the line up. Hmmm.
I think the Si is stating coupe and sedan, where the Type R and hatch are hatchbacks.

From this I deduce that the "Sport Touring" trim will be CVT only (since it only has one entry). I hope there is an Si hatch, and that it offers a higher-spec trim.

Judging by GTI inventory on Cars.com, the Autobahn (top spec) trim is the most popular for 6MT-equipped models. I wonder why Honda thinks 6MT drivers must be cheapskates?
Two different types of buyers, and two different perceived 'levels' of cars. A vast majority of VW/Audi 'people' wouldn't be caught dead in a 'cheap Honda'. VW knows this, and prices higher to match. So the sweet spot in performance IS the base GTI. But most that can afford the jump from a Golf (which responds well to basic performance mods) have money in their pocket. I don't remember the specifics, but the base GTI omitted some important features you'd want at that price point. Makes the Autobahn a 'no brainer' decision for most. The additional Performance Pack is quite the stretch, though. Brings the price almost on par to Golf R...

I'm atypical as I don't have an ego, so the Civic Touring at a $10k saving was a no-brainer for me. For a daily driver it's just as nice and sporty, though it doesn't feel like it handles quite as well at higher speeds. That's being picky, though.

Honda buyers are different. Most spend more time agonizing about 'value for money', and the majority of the population do think like you say. "If you won't spring for the automatic, you must only be able to afford a standard."

While I'd prefer the performance of the Golf, the realist in me is willing to sacrifice a little performance for reliability and resale value. While the reliability of the new Civic is unknown, I've owned three Hondas and one VW (Rabbit) and my experience has been that while the Honda's are typically less responsive (stock) they usually last much longer than the VW. Honestly - compare the number of 1998 VWs still running with the number of Hondas. Different vehicles.
