That is a good one. Perfect audio. I have heard that noise before for sure. I wish honda would tell us what it is. I would think their engineers have pinpointed this by now. The car came out last year.

I agree that Honda is aware of it but keeping it hush hush until they've completed their testing. Can't keep anything like this a secret. More people will be complaining as their cars accrue more miles and the grinding noise gets worse.

Just another idea.. Everyone who has this issue, do you drive your car hard sometimes? Like full throttle pulls every now and then? Just seems like everyone with the issue appears to be an aggressive type of driver to me lol. Also, I'm changing my oil today over to Castrol Edge with the Titanium shit lol :drive: for my 2nd oil change. Oil life is at 30% and I've driven 9000kms on this interval. If it still does it after, at least we can eliminate oil brand/cleanliness off the list..

I played back the sound clip to my dad and he said it sounds like the starter/flywheel. He's built his share of engines in his lifetime(he's a muscle car guy) and it seemed like he knew immediately what it was. It's ashame these dealerships aren't really coming up with anything definitive. This is not a fun sound to hear coming from a car with <1000 miles on it.

I do not think it has anything to do with driving style. I have driven mine like a papa sometimes for a full tank to look at variance in economy. And drove it quite gentle for first 600 miles. The sound appeared way within the beginning of ownership.

Yes let us know. But I doubt it will make a difference.

The sound for me is not consistently that loud and long. Sometimes it's very short and sometimes it doesn't even happen. But still within the 3 hours I do usually get the sound.
My car has about 1800 miles on it now. I was very gentle the first six months barley revved it past 4000 rpm and I got the grinding. And now that I drive the car hard I haven't noticed it makes it worse. I'm thinking with more miles it gets worse. I dont know. I just want it figured out and fixed.

OK guys, found out from my Honda guru, mine did this and he said, one of the many heat shields. It warms up with seconds, expands and goes away.

What you have to do is have it on a hoist, up in the air. let it cool of a long time. and the use your auto start on your fob while standing under it.

try it...

the other thing he said was, some at the dealers have had bad starters, stuck open for a bit.

No and No. I have never once romped on the gas of this car. I've driven my car normal (no hard accelerations or full throttle) only. True story. I don't think it matters what the driving pattern is. It's just something plaguing this turbo motor and this brand.

I've been lucky with my touring coupe, may 16 manufacture, so far no issues of any kind. As far as startup noises when I'm in my garage and start the car with the window down I hear a sound like a jet fighter starting up, like a high pitched whine that increases in pitch. It's not the least bit ominous and I rather enjoy it, it's not at all like the sounds some of you are suffering.
