I disagree here, despite RolledaNSX being a credible source. Primarily because I don't think the aesthetics/physics support it. The inductor is way too close to the windshield to suggest it's feeding air to a TMIC. And I'm not seeing any deflectors in the upper grill to suggest it's being channeled along a hood liner.

That core in front is most likely the FMIC. It's low enough and close enough to the front grill to make me think the radiator/condensor are sitting behind it (or being partly fed by the upper grill).
Idk how feasible that'd be, but whatever it is, Honda's not playing any games! From what I've read, the K20 isn't as urgent in the low rev range as the competition. I believe that was by the design though, but if they'd want to rectify that 'complaint' ANNNND keep the top end that a Type R should have, I'd think they could go to a bigger, twin scroll turbo over the current small mono scroll. This, imo, would make more sense then the added weight of a larger engine & the additional cooling over the driven wheels.
I too agree that it was unrealistic, but figured I'd share for the hell of it.

Good ... chassis looks buttoned down and very stable ... the RS looked like a carriage following it in left-hander
still believe Honda may offer FWD and AWD versions ... Red Bull racing civic has RWD conversion for racing .... Honda races for production value
all to be seen ... but i'm holding my breadth :hmm:

I believe the RedBull car is AWD - do they have the ability to disable the front and go RWD? (not being smart@$$ here I really don't know!)

misstated ... i meant RWD added ... BUT what i can read is that they run the block 'inline' to get this config ... making it all the more exciting to wait ... are they testing the inline configuration in rallycross platform before production ... IDK ... but Honda seems to be throwing all their technology for this next gen CTR :confused1:

Surprisingly, Honda leverages a trick valve in the electric wastegate that allows the turbo to behave as a twin scroll without sacrificing low end throttle response. Best of both worlds, so to speak.
More on this? I could've sworn twin scrolls spooled quicker than mono scrolls, but give up a little toward the redline. Did you mean top end?

As was explained to me by guys who are infinitely smarter, a .82 standard housing has more flow potential than a .82 divided housing (twin scroll) because the division integrated into the housing uses up some of the volume. Essentially, a larger twin scroll (i.e. td04) is needed to match the flow potential of a single scroll. That and the pulse variances are very small in a typical moderate output four cylinder application.

Haven't been on in a while but some observations I've seen from spy photos and videos.

The hood vent is not a cooling feature for a top mount. You can clearly see the FMIC in the lower center. With the removal of the fender vents, it tells me Honda is looking for more aerodynamics for higher speed. Thus allowing the car to cut through the air similar to what we see with the NSX.

The air blades changed from the first spy photos in the front bumper by the fogs. Honda has been using a similar design on the new MDX for aero purposes. This is a very high pressure differential causing turbulence in most vehicles. Allowing that flow to smooth would be better for top speed and stability in the track.

LEDs. I figured. High efficiency, lightweight. Just the little things Honda is doing to scrape whatever they can.

Wing profile slightly changed with the addition (EDIT: actually they were there on the original spy photos) of the vortex generators. Less turbulent flow over the wing for more stability.

The sound is amazing. Hope it has more character than the Euro FK2.

Not AWD. It's dynamics and the lack of rear wheel spindle nut in the photos is a clear example. Makes sense if they're adding aero, cutting weight, they would stick with FWD.

Sick car. Even with the camo. Offer it in Championship white and I'm sold.

I'm glad to see the Buick-esque holes in the tops of the front fenders are gone from the earlier shots. I hope they don't return. It's going to be aggressive enough already with the huge wing and ground effects (which I assume will be black on the lower to help get rid of some of the visual clunkiness). Too much of that kind of thing and it just starts looking like somebody went on a shopping spree at Pep Boys.

Sounds good. Looks pretty planted, although they don't look like they're pushing it too hard. I agree that it is going to be FWD, but I have to admit, I would actually prefer AWD on this one to help get the power down. Watching the video of the Golf R completely walk away from the current Type R in a drag race is sad... even if I don't care about straight-line that much.

AWD confirmed by factory driver:

http://www.touringcartimes.com/2016/06/22/honda-could-switch-to-rear-wheel-drive-in-2017/

The Subaru Levorg GT as with all Subarus is four-wheel drive in its road-going configuration, but with four-wheel drive banned under the BTCC’s technical regulations, the team have had to configure the car as a rear-wheel drive car, which Neal explains is an option that has opened up for Honda with the upcoming tenth-generation Civic model.

“The next Civic is a four-wheel drive car so we can do it. OK, it doesn’t have a boxer engine, but we can do what they’ve done and we would just have to go rear-wheel drive with them, that’s what (TOCA) have pushed the formula into,” explained Neal.

I find it interesting that when I try to look at this link now, it's been taken down. Maybe because someone's giving away Honda's little (aka big and amazing) surprise to its consumers? Hmm...
