OK so the coupe is being shown next week in LA but we've had total silence on the hatchback.

We even have heard rumors that the Si could be shown in Detroit or NY next year... isn't the hatch next to be revealed?

Curious if anyone is planning to buy one and what you are expecting from Honda?

If this is what the Gen X CTR looks like you can bet the regular hatchback will have this shape since there is no way they redo any of the underpinnings/structure, maybe just sheetmetal and the usual aero parts.

I think we'll see it before the Si but have notheard anything solid on it other than the Honda press releases which give a clue which order every body style will be revealed.

I'm planning to buy a new Civic in the spring of '17, and may very well get a hatchback because I really like the versatility of four doors and a hatch. I carry around a lot of stuff for various reasons.

That said, I also care about flowing design, suspension, and seats -- which might push me to the opposite end of the Civic spectrum with the coupe. (For at least the last two generations, the Civic coupe seats have had much better bolstering than the sedan's, making them narrower and, for me at least, far more comfortable and supportive. I currently drive a '12 Civic coupe, with serious anti-sway bars, and got the coupe mainly for the seats.)

Anyway, I'll be watching carefully for the coupe and the hatchback when they come out and will certainly take both for a test drive or two.

Yea the regular hatchback will have the same overall shape as the Type R just remove the spoiler and put on standard fenders, quarter panels, and bumpers. It'll be interesting to see if the hatchback develops a hot hatch enthusiast following or if the hatch will be marketed and bought mostly for its 4dr+hatch utility. One thing for sure is that the Type R being in hatchback forum should at least help the hatch's sporty image.

I thought the consensus was that the Si was next, ans the hatch was to be the last thing before the Type R. Possibly no hatch until the 2017 model year.

IMO if they want to create an enthusiast following for the hatch it would help if they bump the power given its added weight. A lot of the competition that has developed an enthusiast following is either RWD/AWD or has significantly more power/torque than what the 1.5L is pushing.

After some digging I think you're right. I reread the Honda press release and it says:

"The world debut of the 2016 Honda Civic Coupe is the second in a series of new 10th-generation Civic models that will include a sedan, coupe, high-performance Si models, a 5-door hatchback and the first-ever Civic Type-R model for the U.S. market, comprising the most diverse and innovative lineup in Civic's 43-year history."

If the order is correct then it looks like I have a longer wait for the hatchback than I thought. Ugh.

It depends on which thing you read. On Honda's website under the heading "The Future of Civic" it reads:

"With an all-new design and striking form, the 2016 Civic Sedan—to be followed later by a Coupe, a Hatchback, an Si and a new Civic Type R—is poised to redefine the compact market starting in the fall of 2015."

So who knows whether the hatch or the Si models will be first. If we're lucky maybe Honda will clarify that today at the coupe rollout.

From reading recent posts here it sounds like a Geneva autoshow reveal in March might be possible so I bet we start seeing standard hatchback spy shots real soon. Honda knows how to play this whole spy shots game. Notice how the day after they announced the coupe for the LA show we get a look at an uncovered coupe prototype. ;)

That's my understanding. Hatch and/or CTR announcement at Geneva. Si announcement at New York. Patiently waiting...

I found this today
http://www.motortrend.com/news/2016-honda-civic-coupe-first-look-review/

At first, I thought it deserved its own thread but then had second thoughts.
If you read through the article, you'll find this as the last paragraph-
The 2016 Honda Civic Coupe is the second of five Civic models the automaker will reveal over 18 months. The five-door Civic hatchback is next and will be followed by Si and the new-to-the-U.S. Civic Type-R model. Once the sporty models are revealed, Honda will have an array tenth-generation Civic models to meet almost any compact car shopper’s need. Except, of course, an all-wheel-drive offering.

So, according to this, the hatchback is next. Not sure how they arrive at this conclusion. I wonder if this means we will be waiting a year for the Si...

For the love of God, I do not understand why the Civic hatch would or should look different than what is out there already in Europe.
How can companies make money if they have so many variations of same stuff and then wonder why they don't make $$$.

Honda is stepping on Acura's turf with all the new models, their marketing is making no sense lately. Who and why would anyone buy an ILX over a civic??? Or an Accord over TLX (unless they wanted 4wd). RLX can't sell itself even if it's life dependent on it. MDX and RDX is doing well only cuz that segment cars are so bloated and ugly (Toyota 4runner anything outside of limited looks like it was made by a 3rd grader bad sci-fic project). The New NSX looks like a kit car with very little room inside compared to it's competition. Hail Mary. bring 2pac Shakur back.

I thought the same thing but then realized the Civic hatch they're selling right now in Europe is at the end of its life cycle. I don't remember where I got that information. The spyshots of the hatch we've seen seem to show a more grown hatch. Maybe we're mistaken and it isn't a Civic hatch in those spyshots...

I agree with your thinking - I checked out the ILX when buying the MDX. Smaller than the Civic (2015 at that time). Nicer, sure, with LED headlights, DCT option (not for me but still) and great seats. But my head touches the ceiling unless I recline a bunch so it isn't for me. Now that the new civic is out, the ILX is marginally better than the Touring. The TLX is definitely nicer than the Accord. Slightly smaller, more nimble and agile, and more sporting... the Sport+ mode sets it far apart from the Accord. Beyond that, at the time the Accord only came with the 6AT. The 9AT of the TSX is, in my opinion, better.
IF Tupac was here now, he would never ride with Ja-.

Because the current euro hatch isn't based on the 10th gen platform. It's not even built on the 9th gen Civic platform, but on a modified Fit platform. The current Euro hatch will be replaced by an all new hatchback based on the 10th gen platform sometime in 2017 when production starts in the UK, where the hatch will be built for worldwide sales.
