Gavnzdad, I think the issue is someone should not have to use super glue on their brand new car purchase. I haven't wasted any gas, just waiting on the resolution before I proceed.
This argument goes both ways.

Sure, you shouldn't really have to MacGyver something brand new -- but if you do, then isn't it far easier to just fix it yourself than spend all that time trying to get the dealer to do what will likely be exactly the same thing??

I mean, if you're retired and spend your days sitting at home (which I would love to do btw, not meant to be offensive) then by all means, but I'd much rather do it myself and quickly get it over with than spend hours trying to fight some man at the dealership.

You people just crack me up.

If y'all would rather bitch, waste gas, and spend lots of time going back and forth to the dealer instead of just getting a $2 tube of super glue and being done with it, more power to ya.
...
Sure man, brand new car, first Coupe owners fresh out of the gate, just what we should be doing is fixing an issue like this. If I wanted to be fixing a brand new car, I could have saved a few bucks and bought a Hyundai, the name sounds about the same, BFD.

Meanwhile, I can tinker all day long on my classic Chevy pickup, it's a beater, and it's fun!

My fix has been working great too, the black kite frame rod with rubber tip hasn't been as annoying as the cover blocking the view.

I'm not saying you SHOULD have to fix it, I'm saying spend $2 and be done with it. Explain the logic of spending $20 or more in gas, plus the wasted time, going back and forth to the dealer versus a quick fix. But hey, if that's your prerogative, that's fine, I'm happy for you. But if spending $2 on super glue is the only problem I have with my car, then I'm happy. You keep looking for that design flaw fix that Honda will eventually come up with.

I bet it'll be some version of super glue.

Just got back from the dealership with the same problem. They told me the part was backordered, and didn't seem to know about any trends with it falling off. I should tell them to do a quick Google search to find the same link the thread that I did. Thanks for the heads up, I will be sure to remind them that this is a nationwide issue and I will not settle for them just putting the same sticky tape on there that originally was on the car. I agree with those who say that we should not have to Jerry-rig a brand-new car.

the dealership changed the whole assembly and it didn't work. I called corporate out of frustration and they told me that they found a solution - a clip! Brought the car back to service, was told that it will be impossible for that third brake light to fall open again - after a few hours, fell open again. They told me they can super glue it. Tried to call corporate again as the person at the dealership said that his hands are tied and don't know what else to do. Been in and out of the dealership for the same problem for 5-6 times already. Corporate hasn't called me back!
I'm on my fourth fix now and it had a small improvement. I picked it up and it looked ok, but it started looking kind of bent. Had the dealer look and it seems one side already failed and I'm not sure how long the other side will hold. It lasted 3 blocks this time instead of just pulling out of the dealer lot and falling so it's a very slight improvement. They are working with the Honda engineer that designed this to figure out a solution, but so far all the fixes have not held up. I will just keep dropping my car off and getting a loaner for the day as I drive to work until Honda figures this out. I'm hoping that my car can help them figure out how to fix all the coupes.

I've had my coupe since April & noticed the red light flooding my back window when I hit the brake at night about a month ago & sure enough, the cover was dangling off, hanging on by the clips fastening it to the roof. I took it to my Honda dealer who said it was the tint shop's fault for removing the cover when they worked on the back window. I explained to the dealer that this was happening to most coupes whether they were tinted or not. They slapped some double sided tape on it & sent me on my way. No surprise, the cover was hanging off by the time I got home from the dealer so I took it to the tint place & they were great about attempting to fix it. They used some kind of adhesive which was great until the car was out in the sun for a day & the cover was hanging again. This past Saturday was trip 2 back to the tint place & they applied epoxy & taped the Velcro clips to the back window & told me to leave cover off for 24 hours which I did. Last night on way home from work one side was already coming loose. I finally took matters into my own hands & took the advice of others on here & Gorilla Glued the Velcro tabs onto the back window & let sit overnight with tape over them. I lightly sanded the tabs on the glass & the tabs on the back of the Velcro tabs to promote the glue to adhere better. The tabs seemed hard as a rock against the glass this morning so I popped the cover back on (Velcro to Velcro with no glue in between) & so far so good, but it's still early here in NY. I also placed a call to Honda Corporate in California last night to advise them of the issue & they said some people had been calling in about it. They said a regional representative would be in touch with me in 1-2 business days. Apparently they're still trying to find a solution to the problem. I'm hoping my Gorilla Glue job is a permanent fix, but in case it isn't I wanted this documented so Honda can take care of it. All of you others with this problem should call Honda Corporate too. It's BS to have to deal with this aggravation with a brand new car & I think it sucks that the we owners seem to be making a better attempt at home to remedy this than the dealers are. 800-999-1009

I called Honda, they acted like I am crazy. They won't speak to me about the issue until the dealer diagnoses it. They said they can not go off of what the internet boards are saying.

I just heard back from Honda Corporate. Their regional rep stated that they still need to determine whether this is a factory defect since they spoke to the dealer I brought the issue to in the first place & they again blamed the tint place. Meanwhile the tinter confirmed (& you can see where the tint stops around the light cover) that they did not remove the cover when they applied the tint. They make it sound like removing the cover is the end of the world. What if someone had a dead bulb they had to change? Then the cover wouldn't work after that either. I think the bottom line is that Honda still doesn't know what to do to remedy this. It's a hot sunny day here & so far my cover is up there tight & secure (fingers crossed!!!)

Well hopefully mine is resolved. The Gorilla Glue is holding the Velcro tabs to the glass so the cover hasn't come down (yet). It's been out in the hot sun all day every day at work too.

I don't get it, but I give up. :dunno:
why are you being a such a smart a$$?? people are taking their cars to the dealer so that it gets documented and hopefully have honda do a recall for this so that eyeryone can get this fix perm. by fixing it by yourself and not letting honda know doesnt really help the community. if you cant understand why others are taking their time correct this issue with dealer then simply get off this topic and forum.

All I said was "I give up". If others wanna waste time and money for the same exact fix that costs $2, be my guest. If we were talking about a serious issue like the motor or something, then it would make more sense. But spending more money because "it's the principle of the thing", doesn't. And nothing can be said to change that. It's called logic, check Webster's.

I wasn't being a smart a$$, but I am now. :)
