I wanted to first say thank you to everyone on this forum that has helped me over the past year. I am new to driving manual and was basically afraid. I had been rear ended in traffic in my 2009 Honda Ridgeline in the spring of 2019 and while the truck was fine - and i was overall fine, my nerves really got shook.

I was trying to learn how to drive manual transmission on my boyfriend's cars, but i am always nervous driving someone else's car. I also watched tons of videos and did as much research as i could to try and learn, as well as to make sure the SI was the perfect car for me.

I even found a local driving school that had a manual car. I paid for 90 minutes of driving - and the instructor really gave me the confidence boost i needed.

It was looking like i could not make the new car happen though, i had some concerns over affording things - but the Ridgeline is approaching 200k miles and it was needing more and more repairs. I also drive about 90 miles round trip for work (granted right now i am luckily working from home during the pandemic). I am keeping the truck, i need it for my camper and for hauling stuff - i have a little hobby farm.

My parents were nice and gave me a generous gift for my birthday so i was able to pull the trigger and bring home a 2019 SI coupe in PWP. White was not first choice, i LOVE the blue, but i gotta say - that white sure pops and attracts attention.

With the pandemic, i have not been driving anywhere near as much as i normally do, but the empty roads have helped to give me time to get out and practice driving. Hills with a traffic light still get me. I KNOW it is all mental on my part. As i can go find a steep hill in a neighborhood with no pressure and do hill starts without any issues without the need to use brake hold. I also have a magnet on the back that gives caution to those behind me :)

On a day is it NOT raining i am going to give it a bath and then ceramic coat it. I ordered all season mats, the spare tire kit, and i am looking to install some opt 7 ambient lighting. One of the first things i did was get a new dash camera.

Congrats! I'm partial to the blue, but the white is an excellent color.

I am new to driving manual and was basically afraid.
Similar to my own personal experience. I bought my first manual transmission car - a new 2001 Audi A4 1.8tq - without ever having touched a clutch pedal in my life. I was pretty damn anxious. When the deal was done, my wife (who had a lot of experience with manuals) drove me to a giant empty corporate parking lot, where I proceeded to buck and stall out for the next hour. But eventually I figured it out, and managed to make it home without stalling. Since then, I've only ever owned manuals.

With the pandemic, i have not been driving anywhere near as much as i normally do
I identify with this statement. I purchased my 2020 Si on 2/29...and I have yet to visit a gas station. Over a month without a single fill-up. I guess in this sense the pandemic has proven economical for me...but I just want to get out there and drive.

Which dash cam did you buy? I want one, but the variety of options is dizzying.

My mom (rest her soul) only drove manuals most of her life. She hated automatics, and used to say that you have more control driving a manual and automatics were for lazy people (my mom had a black and white view on life). She finally had to switch to an automatic around 1996 when she had her lymph nodes removed due to breast cancer which caused numbness in her right arm. I learned how to drive my first manual in 1984 on her 1979 VW Dasher 4 speed, a car my mom loved

That's one reason that keeps many novice from buying their first manual. Just remember "Glance, don't stare". :)

I have a 2019 white one and I love it. I went with the Red HFP floor mats for my car. I also want to get the spare tire kit once we get past all this virus stuff, but Im barely driving now, so small chance of blowing the tire. I do have a small plug in air compressor I keep in my trunk just in case.

I have purchased this one from amazon - twice now. I have it in my truck and in the Si.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07SZNL2WT

I find the menus easy, and it is a two camera system that comes with A LOT of extra cable to connect front and back cameras. The install was easy - at this time i just have it in the "cig power". Running wires is easy to tuck behind the ceiling liner or door gasket. I would say it takes an hour to get it all done, and that was because i wanted a really clean install. the most labor intensive part was shoving about 5 feet of cable up into my headliner in the back seat since i have the coupe.

And yes, i really really wanted blue and i will always love blue, but the white worked out. It was a left over 2019, so i am the first owner.

Thanks! your video would not load for me - but i think it is the idea to glance in the mirror and not stare in the mirror. For me.. it is actually more about having cars next to me (so like multple lane traffic lights).

One reason i was so nervous about learning stick was having people honk at me and getting stuck. I mean, sure i still dont wanna stall out midway through a turn or something - but i figure - most people are stuck on their phones at traffic lights - i wait for THEM to go all the time, they can wait on me for a change!

With the amount of driving i "normally do" when not in pandemic mode, i felt a spare was needed. I might never need it, but i dont wanna be stuck on the side of the road because of a blow out. normally - most winters our roads are just one large pothole, but this year was not so bad since we hardly had a winter.

I was really thinking of getting the HFP floor mats, but the reality is, im on a farm - and even if i try my best to keep the car clean - somehow it still gets dirty. I have not even had my dogs in the car and there is already dog fur in the back seat...

Right now - my biggest upset has been - DUN DUN DUN ---- The dreaded front license plate. Im in maryland that requires them. I thought i was going to do a side/towhook mount- then realized (after ordering the mount) that the civic does not have a threaded tow hook! OPPPS

Well at least the BF will be able to use the plate holder on his miata.

So i went back and forth and back and forth on what i was going to do. I think in the end, i am finally going to give in and drill the bumper for the front plate. I have seen some other cars with it and I dont feel that it looks to bad. It mounts higher, so it does not really block much air flow (for all the racing i do /s). And i am a person of symmetry - so center is good.

I just have not actually drilled yet. I feel so strange, like it is hurting my baby... sighs.

I think today will be bath day and ceramic coating day. if so.. tomorrow is drilling day.
