For years auto manufacturers always had problems with paint. Paint is a chemical and its not a stable substance also it depends on the paint manufacturers as well

I just make sure to close my eyes whenever I get within 5 feet of my car until I get inside. :fear: Ignorance is bliss

I think the paint is just fine. Scratches and chips just as any other automobile would for the same dollar. If you want a tri-coat, you will be in an entirely different price range.

Honda Civics have had generally poor paint jobs since at least gen 7 from my experience (never shopped for anything older than gen 7). 8th gens were so bad they had a TSB that allowed the repaint on piles of cars. 9th gens paint sucked (I had one... chips if you looked at it... orange peel... etc.). 10th gen paint sucks. My RSX was based on a 7th gen Civic and seemed to be ok... but I cross-shopped 7th Gen Civics at that time and it's paint job was 7 or so years old at the time and pretty tired. It's just par for the course. I've used a touch up pen a bunch of times and made 2 warranty claims. I bet 1/2 my car has been resprayed and blended at this point. It'll probably look like a red calico car as it ages. I don't think it's any worse than any other car starting under $20k though. You can option up to $30k... or approach $40k in a CTR. It's still a very budget factory paint job. I haven't seem gen 9s delaminating like the early 8s though... so at least we ought to have that going for us.

Have to disagree. I've purchased cars since the 1970's and the 10th gen Civic's paint chips easier than any car I've owned. I've had the same job and travel the same roads for 30 years so it's a valid comparison.

Hey the Cosmic Blue paint on my car looks amazing. But, the paint is really, really soft.

Perhaps my “Cosmic Gray Pearl” is the exception”. I also had a 9th Gen Accord that was Metallic Gray for 7yrs and that was also fine IMO.

What is this Cosmic Gray Pearl you speak of? :dunno: It's certainly not a 10th gen Civic paint color I've seen in North America.

Correction: Sonic Grey
I also disagree that the paint is any issue.

The paint quality makes me glad i went with Lunar Silver metallic. Silver hides pretty much everything so at least when the paint eventually does start to give in, wont look as bad.

I feel like every time I drive my car and come back I get a new scratch. I had one not even 24 hours after I bought it a big chunk on paint missing by the door. I am glad the dealer cover it up but since then I got 2 other ones. Did Honda only put one coat of paint?
I don't have any problems, but the more I think about it, the more I believe I will be getting the car repainted in the future with a much better, orange-peel-less and heavy clear coated shine. Time will tell.
