So after the above review a designer followed up and re-designed the fat butt side... My immediate response was something that sounded different than the typed version of "oouuhhgg"

It looks like a copy of many other cars that all seem to copy the same bland styles as everyone else. Hello Toyota, Hyundai, Kia, Dodge, etc... No thanks. I'll take polarizing and interesting, please. I do like the integrated exhaust, that part looks good.

I saw that and immediately thought Mazda based on the curves around the back.

Their "fix" looks terrible tbh. The civic's tail lights are one of the best looking tail lights in the market right now. If only they were full LED (bonus points for sequential turn signals)

The comments a ,It doesn’t handle as though it’s as petite as a Toyota Corolla and the chassis doesn't feel solid is total bullshit.
Total crappie review from a real life tool.

I have Hatch ST and have been getting nothing but good comments from other drivers.

It’s interesting to me that IRL the comments I get are all complimentary.
totally agree. The car stands well on its own IRL. Especially the front profile/front side angle and direct side. The rear is where it loses me a bit. It is ummm “aggressive.” Haha.
The crazy thing is how lucky we and the car enthusiast world is to have the 10th civic, coming from the awful past few generations. With their cab forward design like A pillars and terrible underpinnings.
The 10th Hatch Sport is some sort of wizardly IMO, in order to make it:
1) affordable
2) quick
3) super fun to drive
4) economical mileage
5) tunable
6) aggressive looking

those commentary are just jealous, they either:
A) spent 35-45 grand on a muscle car that is way too fast for public streets and gets 11 mpg
B) drive a 86 and are the worlds greatest driver and RWD only bro’s.
C) Hyundai owners

:dunno:

I think the fact that the Type R exists in this generation is the source of a lot of the vitriol; most of the "car guys" on Jalopnik drive cars that are significantly slower around a track than the Type R and they can't handle that. I remember clearly when the first FK8 reviews came out and it became clear that this FWD car was whipping up on much more powerful cars with AWD and RWD, the comments all turned toward the styling. Although car buying is really a subjective thing, most car enthusiasts feel like they need to justify their car purchase by emphasizing the negatives of the competition.

The sales of the 10th gen speaks for itself.

^so true. The Type R (bone stock) is a quick car on a track or on a street.
