I have had the touring edition installed for over 1,000 miles now. I absolutely love the sounds it makes driving in the city but on the highway is a totally different story. It is super loud and annoying on the highway. It is to the point where I want to wear ear plugs if I'm going on the highway for any length of time. I'm contemplating going back to stock because of this. It's sad because the sound of the idle and acceleration leaves you smiling every time but then when you get on the highway all of that joy goes away.
My exact experience as well. A real treat to drive through town with, but an absolute headache on the highway. I've never had such a love hate relationship with exhaust in all my driving life lol. 10/10 in town, 2/10 on the highway. Just so loud at 3k when cruising. I too am contemplating going a different route which sucks because this exhaust is otherwise perfect. Touring model for me as well. I wish there was a way to quiet it a bit more.

If you guys and gals are having real issues with the sound of the system on the highway send a support ticket in. I know it's a bit of a PIA, but maybe it could become something the engineering team looks into. They will see each ticket that's sent in. Let me know if you need help with anything. DM me,

Will do bud and thanks. Fwiw, I am not bagging on the product at all (it's pretty awesome most of the time). Everyone will have a difference of opinion of course but that highway cruising sound just destroys my ears :) I would be happy to submit a ticket if for no other reason to help you guys fine tune this baby to perfection.

Do it! That's what it's for and there are few peeps out there this week with the same feedback. This way we can collect it in one spot. Once you get the DP rocking on these cars you realize how much noise is happening in front of it! Ferocious 2.0T!

I'm working on putting a support ticket together for my ongoing exhaust rattle issues and it is indeed a bit of a PIA. Maybe since you work at AWE you could show the engineering team this thread?

I'd say if people are honest about the sound of this system between 60 MPH and 70 MPH, the majority of people would admit they are dissatisfied with the level of noise. Part of what irritates me about it is the fact that the touring version of the system is advertised as having "zero drone at highway speeds" and being "[a]t highway speeds, drone-free within the cabin" and I decided to get this exhaust--paying extra for the touring version--because of those claims. I am now 3000 miles into having the exhaust, and I am still taking my wife's HRV if I will have people riding in the back seats because the AWE touring exhaust is deafening in the back seat on the highway (under 70 mph).

Maybe something could be designed to replace the aluminum heat shield above the muffler section which would lower the volume on the highway? I know making an exhaust sound good is a difficult task, and I must commend AWE, I think they made the best sounding exhaust for the CTR by far in city and sport driving, but I'd really like some help from AWE to try to lower the volume on the highway. I don't mind paying for whatever they come up with.

I'm with you here, brother. I'd be all for purchasing whatever would help tone down the decibels inside the cabin at highway speeds. I can't say enough good things about this exhaust in town driving. Just that highway sound is brutal and I too forked up the extra cash for touring because the description sounded like this was a tamer version.

I agree with other users in this thread regarding the drone.

I previously had the AWE Track Edition also. The sound is amazing, that I will give. However, the drone was harsh during cruising or highway speeds. It was very difficult to have conversations in the car with this installed.

So I switched over the the HKS Legamax. So far so good. No front pipe sadly. The sound is substantially lower and different.

However, I think in all fairness for criticizing the track edition regarding the sound is harsh. It's exactly what it is. Not very city friendly and that's what you're buying if you get the Track Edition.

But those with the touring I can see your argument.

Are you also running a downpipe? Catted/Non-Cat? I was driving ours today which has a stock DP now and it's very tame but I never drove it when we had the DP and tune. I'll bring it to engineerings attention for sure, but the support ticket goes right into the CRM system so that way all of the info is there for anyone in the company to look at and follow up with the progress. And, of course, they always ask "Well, did they put in a support ticket?" :headbang:DM me if you have any questions.

Are you running a DP? You could have also grabbed a Touring Conversion for the Track Edition but not sure if that would have gotten you to where you want to go.

I'm not the guy you asked but I have a prl catted downpipe. I installed the exhaust first then went back and did the dp (don't ask lol). It was loud before the dp in my opinion but the dp certainly didn't improve things :confused1:

Edit: btw, mad kudos for chatting and working through issues with us all. Speaks volumes about AWE imo.

I did not run a Down Pipe with the AWE Track Edition nor with my current HKS Legamax setup.

I thought about the Touring edition but in all honesty, I did not want to possibly end up in the same position with the droning as other users on here have mentioned.

Stock Cat. I think part of the discrepancy in experiences is the driving environment. If I lived outside the city where all I would do is stop and go and highway speeds over 70, I probably wouldn't be bothered, but living in a city where the flow of traffic on the highways is somewhere between 55 and 70 MPH 90% of the time, it's really annoying.

Having my touring exhaust installed next week and never seen any feedback here before that highway is painful. Is this really the case for everyone? Does it get better if you shift down and drive with higher rpms?

Touring and stock DP is very mild on the highway at cruising speeds, with no drone.. Downpipes will obviously render an increase of volume both in and out, but there isn't any drone (talking strictly drone-prone frequencies) rather the exhaust note is just heard more throughout the rev band.

The answer to your second question is yes; though I don't find driving in 5th gear on the highway an acceptable solution.
