So I’ve finally got a nice day to get underneath my car and take PRL CAI filter off. It has been through summer-fall-winter, roughly 9 months and 10-12k miles in Central PA.

And this is what I found...

Honda Civic 10th gen PRL CAI inspected after 9 months 3694CE62-731E-4129-AAF8-9EB978A8E793

It is tough to judge how dirty it is by looking at the pictures, but I expected to find much more particles. Looks like the filter could go for about 15k miles or a year easily before it needs to be washed.

Now what about water marks? None whatsoever! And this baby been through standing water, I’d say bout 3 inch deep (although I was making sure it’s not under any kind of boost) and quite a few stormy drives, one of them being 2 hour long drive on PA turnpike where the wipers barely could keep up and there was quite a bit of shallow standing water.

Although there is a water mark on the belly of plastic “90” pipe that the filter attaches to and SS bracket as well. I didn’t measure how far away from the filter that water mark is, but I’d say it’s 4-5 inches away, and the belly of that “90” sits over an inch lower than the filter. That water mark seems to be spray that comes in through the opening in the plastic cover that is right underneath the “90”.

I feel confident now that this thing can only be hydro locked by submerging it in standing water. There is no storm that could pose such a threat to this CAI. Well done @PRL Motorsports!!!

Looks good. Though possibly a little dry of filter oil.
Is there any dust inside the CAI that the filter didn't catch?

Excellent feedback, looks like the filter is doing exactly what it should. May be time for a nice cleaning refresh while you have it off.

People often forget how much rain we receive here in Pennsylvania, we've definitely put our shop Si through the fiery hoops with this intake and never had any concerns or issues. Our employees have driven daily through all weather conditions and some extreme downpours.

There was nothing inside the filter, seems like it’s doing it’s job, I ended up giving it a nice bath, toothbrush treatment, some hair blower action and finger rub of oil before it went back on.

I just seen an experiment done with aftermarket filters. Not PRL but another big name that looks damn near 100% the same just re-branded... go on youtube and watch ProjectFarm latest video... It'll make ya question PRL's competitor and possibly even PRL. Unless PRL can put out a similar video testing their filter vs competitors... that would be perfect because my eyes dont lie to me. im js. that filter can be cleaner then a hooker. i wonder how dusty the intake tube is or isnt... I guarantee anyone who watches that video your gonna say to yourself wtf just happened how is that even possible...

We cannot/will not compare our products to any competitors, as we find this to be rather unethical and smells like a great way to create a lawsuit. However, third party testers are always welcome to do any testing if they so wish, like ProjectFarm.

Our filters are manufactured by Green Filter USA, which is conveniently located right down the road from us. Green Filter does extensive R&D and has already released quite a few videos and information regarding their filters, which can be found on their site and many other places. Green Filter private labels and supplies filters to quite a few big name manufacturers that the community is familiar with.

Here are a few videos (some dated) for reference:

I had well over 20k on mine and when I went to clean it, it looked just like yours and the intake piping was clean. I was blown away. The bottom side of my car is filthy but the intake was clean.

The community knows Green for "green" filters. Though our filters are manufactured by Green, the end result is still a PRL Motorsports product. For this reason, we wanted to use a different color to aid in brand identity. These filters are usually custom sized for us and have the "PRL" logo'd end cap.

I always thought these filters were supposed to be cleaned ~50k miles. Correct me if I’m wrong, also depends of course if you live in a dusty location or not, but nonetheless PRL made there CAI beautifully and put the location of the filter right in the money spot. Let’s not forget the pshhhhh we get after the swap!
