So I’ve finally got a nice day to get underneath my car and take PRL CAI filter off. It has been through summer-fall-winter, roughly 9 months and 10-12k miles in Central PA.
And this is what I found...
It is tough to judge how dirty it is by looking at the pictures, but I expected to find much more particles. Looks like the filter could go for about 15k miles or a year easily before it needs to be washed.
Now what about water marks? None whatsoever! And this baby been through standing water, I’d say bout 3 inch deep (although I was making sure it’s not under any kind of boost) and quite a few stormy drives, one of them being 2 hour long drive on PA turnpike where the wipers barely could keep up and there was quite a bit of shallow standing water.
Although there is a water mark on the belly of plastic “90” pipe that the filter attaches to and SS bracket as well. I didn’t measure how far away from the filter that water mark is, but I’d say it’s 4-5 inches away, and the belly of that “90” sits over an inch lower than the filter. That water mark seems to be spray that comes in through the opening in the plastic cover that is right underneath the “90”.
I feel confident now that this thing can only be hydro locked by submerging it in standing water. There is no storm that could pose such a threat to this CAI. Well done @PRL Motorsports!!!
