So I’ve had a lot on my plate lately. My mom had to be put in to hospice a couple weeks ago. I’ve been visiting her near every day for that time. Her time is near. Like possibly the next day or less. Obviously this has been weighing on me and my family heavily. Driving to the hospice hospital today I didn’t realize I was next to a dump truck that was spewing rocks on to my car until it was too late. Of course a couple chips and a small hood ding later I passed it. *sigh*

At lunch at the hospital my lunch comes to $6.66. Yikes.

I bring an extra pen of insulin for myself in case I needed it. I didn’t. Went home and showered, forgetting the insulin pen, worth about $200 was still in my pocket. Washed clothes and dried them. Hear something rattling in dryer. Yep. Insulin pen. Ruined.
Meanwhile expecting a call anytime now about my mom...

So, how was you’re Friday the 13th?

My little boy got attacked by the neighbors dog. He (the dog) ran into the house before I could get to him and has to be quarantined for 10 days... and after that, we'll see what happens. I told my neighbor I'm never going to be ok with that dog anymore and have educated myself on the laws and am hoping he'll let the dog go. German Shepard's who were trained as puppies like a quasi-attack dogs but have little to no discipline aren't very good neighborhood dogs. Few of us have fences and there's over a dozen elementary age kids in the neighborhood that play. That dog strays over to that property often and I have to holler at it to go home. Now? Hmmm... well... the ball is in their court.

As to my dad who passed a few years ago? I miss him everyday and it hasn’t really ever gotten better. The wrongness of not being able to pick up the phone and chat with him or go run an errand with him is as strong as ever... and living life as the eldest male in the family without an elder to call on is like living life without a safety net. It’s a weird feeling.

Edit: Don't mean to end it on such a sour note. I love my dad still with all my heart and while I miss him greatly, I don't dwell on the end but all the good times. Right now you're in the moment of "the end" but as time passes... you'll have everything to look back on, and not one negative event. Hang in there bud. There'll always be a piece missing... that's just the way it is... but there's a lifetime to remember and treasure.

So sorry for your loss. Hospice is very depressing, i had to watch my older brother pass just over a year ago. He had Parkinson's and also Lewy body which affects your brain and causes dementia. A couple weeks before he passed, he lost the ability to swallow food and speak.
They pump you with morphine until you die from fever and starvation. Really, really sucks.
I miss him so much.

Wow, I’m so sorry to hear about your son! I hope your neighbor does right by you and your son.
My father passed away 36 years ago now, not many memories of him, but I still think of him often.

He’ll be ok. Dog has rabies vaccinations current so he didn’t have to get that regiment of shots and other than some scarring under his clothes, he’ll be fine. Could have gone very differently if the dog got its jaws around his neck instead of his back when she jumped on it and clamped down when he was trying to run from her.

I know and like my neighbors. I’m not cross with them really and have no interest in taking a dime from them. There was a hospital stay and I told them our insurance may bill their homeowners insurance which might result in a deductible or a change in their rate... but I’m not interested in seeking any monetary damage.

Shit happens and we got lucky. I am, however... not interested in pressing my luck. The dog has always been a bit aggressive and has some incidents in the past, though nothing to this degree. Now...? The dog will have to go to make me happy. If after the 10 day quarantine they decide they want to keep the dog (my neighbor actually came home from work and was looking to take him to get put down before animal control called him and said he’d get in trouble for breaking the quarantine by taking the dog off the property) then I’m exploring the legal ramifications to push to have the dog designated as dangerous (pretty much a sure thing) or vicious (I think my sons injuries miss the mark on this one). As of now, quarantine or not... I’m not letting the kids out of the yard to play in theirs in case their dog gets out which happens all too often.

So update. Went to funeral home to button up details, was told they can not have a gathering of more than 10 people at the funeral home. So now that funeral is cancelled, only immediate family are going to the cemetery, still will be more than 10, but we’re going to rotate to say our goodbyes. We’ll have a celebration of life at the funeral home after this all blows over. What a cluster fuck of the last month.
