A great Car Hack.

How to set your Sideview mirrors to avoid a blind spot. This method works perfectly and is very helpful in traffic and on a racetrack. I discovered this technique several years ago on the Car Talk website and have used it ever since. If you follow the instructions correctly, any car that appears in your rearview mirror and is passing your vehicle on either side will appear in your sideview mirror precisely as it disappears from view in your rearview mirror. No blind spot!

From your normal sitting position, lean your head to the left and adjust your driver-side mirror so that it just touches the back fender of your car. Then lean your head to the right and adjust your passenger-side mirror until it just touches the rear right rear fender of your car. That's it. You are done.

Interestingly, it works much better then the little indicator light that comes on in the blind spot warning system on our car. By the time the blind spot indicator light comes on, the car is already quite close.

Setting your Sideview mirrors in this fashion will not help you back up, and you should be turn your head to watch when you do that. It will however go along way to keep you from hitting a car in your blind spot.

Let me know what you think. I'm sure that many of you use this technique, but I also know that many drivers have never tried it.
I've posted this technique over and over in this forum but it's always ignored. LOL Everytime someone says "blind spot", I say "you can adjust your mirrors so you don't have a blind spot". It takes some getting used to, but once you've changed your mirrors this way, you'll never go back.

The cup holders are completely non-functional in my EX-T. I'm surprised this isn't a bigger issue. Am I alone in drinking copious amounts of coffee on my commutes? I don't understand how anyone can drive with a regular size coffee cup and not have it spill. I have tipped and filled my console with coffee 2x now. I'd hold it in my hand but I have a 6 speed and that won't work for me.

Exactly. Been doing this for over a decade. Most people's mirrors are set so the side of their vehicle takes up half of the mirror's view, which makes zero sense. I have mine set so I can just see the edges of the side of my vehicle in the mirror, so I can see more of what's around me.

I don't drink coffee very often, but here is this guy's solution for water bottles (or coffee cups).

Not hate but just annoyed. I didn’t do much research beforehand and I purchased a 2.0L 6MT 2016 LX. I didn’t over pay for it, but I didn’t realize that there was another civic with a turbo. I thought that the turbo civics only came in automatic. I really wanted a manual at the time. For a while I had some buyers remorse after I bought it, but I’ve learned to love the car in the last year. It’s not the fastest civic, but it’s mine and I’ll keep it forever.

I've been doing that for... let's see, today's Thursday... oh, maybe twenty-five years?

I do it a little differently (I don't move my head around, and then I just change the side mirrors), but the result is the same -- there's no duplication between mirrors. When something passes off the edge of the rear view mirror, it appears in the side view mirror. And by the time it gets to the outboard edge of that, then I can see it off my shoulder.

I snagged these off of a Canadian site several years ago and reuploaded them for future reference:

I started setting my mirrors this way a few years ago, and what a difference it makes. I find my LaneWatch view pretty much matches what I'm already seeing from my side view mirror. Great tip, though my wife refuses to follow it...
Same with my wife. Glad she at least has the blind spot sensors on her CR-V, though. I fix the mirrors my way if I'm going to drive it for any length of time.

Great! I think the instructions that I posted should be modified to say that mirror should just touch the side of the car rather than the rear bumper. Makes more sense.

Excellent video by the way. Thanks.

You shouldn't need to see any of your own vehicle in the side mirror. Aim them farther outboard.

When you're parked, set your rear view mirror dead center (I prefer to also push it up towards the ceiling as far as it'll go so that it won't block as much of my forward-right vision), and take note of what you can see at its far right and left edges.

Then, without moving your head, adjust the side mirrors so their inside edges barely see what the center mirror can see. This will be like what the BMW instructor demonstrated with the blue cones in the first video I posted a couple days ago.

Later, preferably on a highway, you can tweak the side mirrors a little more.

not really a hate. i still overall really like my car. But this car (and other Hondas such as the CR-V and Odyssey) seem to have a slightly worse fit and finish overall in comparison to older Honda's.

Hey man living with regret sucks so don't worry about it. Everyone has buyer's remorse all the time and no one's immune to the "grass is greener on the other side" way of thinking. Heck I debate whether I should've gotten a 4-door instead or that every other color is better than PWP blah blah whatever. One thing about your 2.0 is you won't ever have to stress about the stupid oil dilution problems with the 1.5T engines and that thing will run forever especially since you have the manual. And honestly even if the oil dilution issue wasn't a big problem the 2.0NA will probably last longer anyway b/c it's not a tiny engine with a turbo slapped on pushing a bunch of boost. The 2.0 gives you peace of mind and hey it's a manual you can rev it out and it's probably a blast. There're way worse cars you could be in than a 10th gen civic with a manual bro!!
