So I was just washing my car today and was thinking how large the gap between the hatch and the other panels is. Does everyone's car look like this? It's symmetrical just a huge gap. You can even see the blue writing on the strut that holds up the hatch through the gap.

As krees said, the huge panel gaps are part of this 10th gen.

Matter of fact, my sedan trunk lid gap is so big I can fit my fingers in there. The big gaps and crap paint are my two major gripes with the car.

Thanks for the responses I figured this was the case but I just wanted to make sure that the hatch didn't need to be realigned or anything

My 17 R had a horrible gap on the rear hatch...
My 18 Si had some gaps and uneven panels I fixed by adjusting the rubber knobs. My 20 Si gaps and paint seem to be improved.

On my 17 R every time I would wash the car I was waiting for water to get in rear hatch gaps were so big...I sold the car because it had horrible gaps interior/exterior/bad paint/orange peel/trans leaking etc.

Well. You are really paying for engine, chassis, handling . The rest of the car is free.

I told myself that and happily after.

The hatch gap is on purpose. If it was any tighter along the top of the hatch, the hatch would hit the roof panel when it swings upward because of where it hinges from. Open the hatch and watch from the side - it gets very close to the roof panel.

The gaps on the side match the gap along the top - guessing these could have been tighter but it may have looked odd.

My biggest complaint is that the paint match for the ABS pieces of the car (hatch/hatch chines, bumpers, etc) is utter crap. You can even see it in your photos - the large chine on either side of the hatch clearly doesn't match the roof paint next to it!
