The one thing that might be iffy about the Alcantara steering wheel is the material itself. Honda isn’t using real alcantara anywhere else in the car so why would they on the steering wheel? This leads me to believe that it will fade and ware out prematurely.

I have one on order. No date as far as arrival, yet. I'm also wondering what it will look like after some use....but there is only one way to find out. I can always go back to stock so we'll see.

I tried to order the steering wheel last night from parts.hondaconyers.com last night and they cancelled my order saying they couldn't order that part from Honda right now.

I don't daily my car, so I think it will stay nice and clean for a while. Maybe I'll just have to wear racing gloves every time I drive. lol!

Quite the opposite. Fake alcantara lasts longer than the real one.

Real leather needs maintenance fake does not.

Alcantara is not a natural product. It’s a trademark name for microfiber. Alcantara is not suede. The CTR has fake Alcantara everywhere else because it is not the “brand” Alcantara. The fact that they chose to use Alcantara on the wheel leads me to believe it will be more resilient than just plain ole microfiber.

Alcantera is a brand name synthetic textile made of a microfiber, suede-like material (according to Wikipedia). Honda uses a fake synthetic suede-like material for the Type R, or fake Alcantera. I don't believe they use actual alcantera on the steering wheel, I believe they use the verbiage Alcantera-like, similar to what they did to describe the seats.

Edit: take that back, they do use actual Alcantera on the wheel.
