For the last few months I have been having sort of sluggish performance and very notchy shifting, especially between gears 1-2 and 3-4. No grinding, no lockouts, nothing like that, just sort of a slight hesitation taking off and between shifts. I feel lately that the transmission has not been very smooth. After doing a lot of research and asking several members in this forum, a lot of people recommended changing out the OEM fluid for Amsoil Synchromesh. I purchased 2 quarts ($16 each) and replacement crush washers and took it to my mechanic who changed it out for $20, and damn, I am glad I did it!

My shifts are now buttery smooth, all gears, and the transmission is very smooth and responsive. I didn't feel and joltiness in any of the gears like before. The second and fourth gear notchiness is still there, but much less than before. I was so impressed by the performance increase and smoothness, as I was driving back to work after picking my the car from the mechanic I took a bit of a detour.

I would more than recommend to everyone who feels that they are experiencing transmission sluggishness and who have not changed out their MT fluid to get it done, and I would highly recommend Amsoil Synchromesh. Hopefully this fluid will keep the transmission smooth until my next change in 30K. We will see...

EDIT

Bumped this post backup as I think it is relevant due to all the new people who recently joined this forum
Do you part #s for crush washers or where you got them?

Thanks

Where did everyone purchase from?
I cant find anyone local that sells it and Amazon sells for $35 per Qt.
Another site had it for $16.25 per Qt but charged $60 for shipping lol

Also for the 1.5t Si, how many Qts does it take?

thanks!

If you are referring to Amsoil, you can try and Google a local dealer in your area or like I did, buy it online. I bought it from amsoil.com's website, It was $16.15 a quart (2 quarts) and I think I paid $8.99 for shipping:

Just ordered 2019 Honda Civic hatchback sport 6MT.
I've always had issues most standard shift transmissions especially during cold winter months.
Just like you guys trying to do the right thing are these just issues with the Si and type R's or is this something shared amongst all transmissions...Honda

Has anyone driven with Amsoil Synchromesh during the winter (Under -15 degrees celsius type of winters)? I've been seeing small comments about other people hearing rumors it wasn't good during the winter.

Every time i went quality synthetic fluid in a manual this was true. Im not going to risk it on this one. I live in Ohio so freezing temps are very prominent. And that's rarely even close to the temps your referencing.

If I have any issues up here in the great white north I’ll dump it right away and run Honda MTF. No issues with Honda fluid last winter. That will be the tell tale if it is indeed “better “.

id rather just stick with the honda fluid and change it every 20k when it starts getting crunchy rather then use expensive ass amsoil.

Any issues yet in the below freezing temps? I am interested in doing a MTF change we his -40 this winter but I figure at that temp oe and amsoil are both going to be thick just looking for feedback before before I make the switch.
Thank you in advance.

What's the word on the driving with the Amsoil? I'm switching mine out in the spring but would like to know if I should switch back for the winter?

I can tell you personally that I felt it was much better than OEM. In fact I just changed out the Rear diff fluid on my Lexus IS350 with Amsoil Severe Gear oil ($18 x 2), it's good for 100K, and next service will be changing out the auto trans fluid with Amsoil Synthetic ATF Fluid, also good for 100K

Again, for me it made a huge difference in transmission smoothness, and for those that claim it's expensive, it's only $16 x 2 and you change it out every 50K to 150K according to Amsoil

I know that this an old post, but it's not that expensive. $16 x 2 quarts, and you change it out every 50K to 150K. Genuine Honda MT fluid is almost $13 (at least on Amazon, maybe you can find it cheaper) per quart, so you are actually spending more money changing it out at 20K, when with Amsoil you can wait to do it at 50K for severe driving and 100K for normal driving. Anyway, thought I would add my two cents

Mild winter this year but when it does get cold it doesn't shift as well on AmsOil as it did with Honda MTF until warmed up. A couple of second gear lockouts and crunches, so I just shift WAY slow until the transmission has some heat in it.
