Does it ever make sense to buy a used Si?

I'm looking at the 10th Gen Si and used ones are not much less expensive than new. They don't seem to depreciate much.

Anyone see the financial sense in buying used?

My 2019 Si was the first car I bought new. I tend to buy used cars ~3 years old, but I also saw that used 2017-2018 Si's were only $2-3k cheaper than a new one, so I opted for a new one.

If you have the dough, I say go for a new one. You could probably get a really good deal for a leftover 2019 model, unless you want the 2020 with the facelift, Honda Sensing, LED headlamps & black wheels.

I bought my 2017 Si with 20,500 miles on it.

It was a lease for 1year and 8 months. I knew there had been no modifications to the car and the previous owner traded it for the same color Type R that was on the showroom floor.

The windows weren’t even tinted, the paint looked good and the interior was very clean. Everything was stock no clips from panels were loose from modification.

It was left completely stock and the guy knew how to drive a manual vehicle.

There is no way to tell if it was abused in stock form, but I’ve found no evidence of abuse in 16k miles. Clutch has never slipped.

This is my first manual car and I wanted to save a couple thousand dollars to make up for the 3k negative equity I had on my 2016 LX sedan lease that I piled miles onto. It made sense to me.

I probably wouldn't buy used again. But I think I lucked out this time.

I just bought a used Si, 2017 w/ 30k miles, a few days ago. It was certified so comes w/ 1 year bumper-to-bumper warranty. The reasoning for me is that I saved 5k out the door on the best price I could get on a new one right now, I could have it quickly, and it gave me left over money from selling my previous vehicle to do some of the mods I wanted right away. I have three kids and am the sole provider of income in my household so disposable income like that comes few and far between. That was my reasoning and I really think it worked best for me.

I'm in the same shoes you're (minus one kid) and wonder when do you have time to mess with the car mods? I hardly manage to dedicate 2hrs for a car wash...let alone work on any mods. Btw, my wife also drives a '16 pilot lol

I've purchased a used car with a manual tranny on the past and had to replace the clutch within the first month of owner ship, car certainly has been abused by first owner....

My 6MT civic, on the other hand, has been purchased brand new. don't really care for used cars anymore

Buying new is a luxury IMO. Nothing wrong with a used Si or any car in general. I do tend to shy away from used sports cars though as they are usually beat on because that is how they were designed to be driven. I definitely don't beat on my cars but I don't drive around like a grandma either. I enjoy having the peace of mind knowing what the car has been thru since day one rather than wonder how it was driven by the previous owner(s). But knowing the reliability of Honda's in general, I doubt you will have any problems going used. Unless the car was abused, it should have plenty of life left in it.

CarMax sells used ones for more than I paid brand new.
Carmax has very high overheads .. guess who gets to pay for that ??

Look at a typical CarMax lot, with all those car, and imagine what the daily depreciation is on all those cars just sitting there, and the cost to own & run that lot !!

I bought my used '17 Si from a Honda dealer via an eBay auction. Saved $$thousands. Sales Manager claimed they set the reserve too low by mistake. The first owner traded it in on a Type R after the original Type R "buyer" backed out. I drove it ~6,000 miles before i traded it in - on a Type R. I think used is fine as long as you save a significant amount over brand new and get a warranty.

A used car is always much less than the MSRP of a NEW one. It depreciates right when you drive it off the lot, 1mile or 500miles, it doesn't matter.
When buying any used car, you should be cognizant of the overall health of the vehicle and whether it was modified previously.
If the car is 1yr old (or less), just get the NEW model - it is far less hassle and you have better financing options.
If it is 3yrs old (or so), you can more easily look at KBB and get the value between Good & Fair and know that a used car Manager never paid more than that for the car - trade or auction.
Just understand though, that used MT vehicles will typically have problems with the clutch - as that is par for the course of drivers that want them.

You all obviously have good taste in vehicles, haha. I haven't had time to mod yet. Probably will be after the kids are asleep and I'm in the garage, or if it's nice out then I'll be missing while they play outside.

Yeah CarMax and Carvana's prices on these are ridiculously overpriced.

I have traditionally purchased used (approx. 3 yr old) vehicles to save $$$. However, when I was shopping for my Si a few months ago the used options weren't that much less (1-2k) than new, so I went with new this time.

If you can find a used one at a good price, with a warranty then go for it. If the vehicle is still under warranty that should give you pretty good peace of mind. As previously mentioned, the clutch might have some excessive wear if the prior owner wasn't that proficient with their clutch work.

For this specific car if you are financing it typically makes more sense to buy new vs used. What a lot of people don’t realize is financing brand new you will almost always get a better Apr than used. So on paper before financing it looks like your saving a couple thousand but with interest your not saving as much. As one of the members stated you can probably get a great deal on a 19 but if you like the new features provided go for a 20

Buying a used car is one of the best forms of recycling we can do.
And recycling always makes sense
