I need a spare key for my Lx. Can I buy a blank key on Ebay and tune it to the car myself? Have a locksmith copy the key.

Yes, with caveats --

You can buy an unprogrammed OEM key from eBay or an online Honda dealer and take it to an automotive locksmith to program and cut. You don't need a dealer to do this.

Locksmiths sells their own blanks they know to work with they own eqipment and might get testy if you bring in something like an aftermarket key from eBay.

If you bring it to a locksmith, make sure the key is still in the Honda wrapping.

It's understandable, because locksmiths deal with people buying FOBs from China off eBay of unknown quality and then blame the locksmith when the key won't program with their equipment.

That screenshot is from the Autel App. This same app is used for other Autel products.

I guarantee you that a $50 Walmart Bluetooth scanner, is not going to program keys.

As mentioned, there are a few things that need to happen.
Get a Honda key or one of known quality. Be wary of Chinese imports.
Have the key cut to match.
Program for the door locks (anyone can do this, instructions online)
Program for the ignition (needs a special programmer and all keys must be present).

Thank you for the info,
Can you be more specific about the "special programmer"

It means a $49.00 Bluetooth dongle can't program the key.

Programming the immobilizer portion of the key needs a handshake with Honda servers and either the dealer or a bonded locksmith who Honda has authorized can do this.

That being said, there is a key generator for HDS available but this still requires a bunch of extra hardware above and beyond a Bluetooth dongle. (More expensive and more effort than driving to a locksmith and paying their asking price).
