I don't usually go looking for street races, but when you're driving around in a bright green sporty looking car, everyone wants to race you and sometimes I'll play around... Seriously, it seems like I have someone try to race me almost every time I drive.

So this past weekend I'm driving home from dinner with my girlfriend and we're just cruising around. No crazy driving because she hates it when I drive fast. Anyway, I go to pull away from an intersection and as I'm approaching 3k rpm in 2nd gear, I hear the unmistakable sound of a V8 floor it next to me. Usually I let the other guy just go but it was an open road with no traffic so I just mashed the throttle. It was a super close race but he was slightly pulling on me near the end. I let off at the top of 3rd gear because a construction zone was approaching. He goes by and I notice it's an early to mid 2000s e55 AMG also driven by a guy with his girlfriend in the passenger's seat. The driver definitely didn't expect my rice burner to hang like that because he was laughing and waved as he turned at the next light. His car sounded awesome, by the way.

I did some research on those e55 AMG's and I'm thinking there's no way my car actually kept up with that thing. Either those were fake badges, or he needs a serious driver mod. It definitely had a v8 and it had the AMG style exhaust tips so maybe it was a real one :hmm: My car is running the 23psi Ktuner basemap with a 27won intake so it's a bit quicker than a stock Si, but it definitely shouldn't be able to hang with an AMG Mercedes... Even if it is an absolute boat. Either way, it was a fun race and just shows that bolt ons can really wake this little 1.5L up.

In Mexico.

I remember, in my 1996 Civic EX, a nice, new Corvette pulled up next to me at a light. I looked over and said something along the lines of "nice car! Is it fast?" he said "thanks and yeah" and the light changed. We both stomped on it and I was surprised at how much it didn't pull away from me. Granted you never know how hard the other guy is driving but unless we drive complete dogs maybe the difference isn't that great.

If your Si is making more than stock power with bolt ons and a tune, it is surprisingly quick for what it is.

He probably did not have the pedal floored and his auto trans was probably shifting way before red line. But regardless, this Si is faster than most people who drive V8 boats would expect. The torque delivered when you floor it in 2nd and 3rd gear above 3500 RPM is fantastic. And the power to weight ratio is far above average.

Those AMG E55 are quick and I barely beat one with my old Saleen. Seems like you gave the AMG Driver bit of a shock.

It's possible it had fake badges, just like most BMW "M" series cars are LOL. However, a real E55 AMG is roughly 430-ish horsepower to the wheels and weighs just over 4200lbs. The Si Coupe weighs almost 2900lbs. That's a weight difference of 1300lbs and a power difference 242whp (Si 188whp). That's 5.37 horsepower per pound difference. Even with that much weight, I don't think you stand a chance stock for stock vs a REAL E55 AMG.

But let's say your mods bring you up to 200whp. That's still not enough to close the gap. For context, my buddy has a 2018 Charger R/T. Those are 370hp to the crank and roughly 345'ish to the wheel. My car, FBO, Stage 2 on E40 blend was dead even to him despite him having 100hp and 1,300lbs difference. Now imagine the same weight difference, but 100hp on top of that. Yeah, not gonna happen. Not without PRL's big turbo kit upgrade.

Real E55 AMGs are quick. One of my buddies had one with an upgraded supercharger and it ran in the 11s on the 1/4 mile. A bone-stock one can run 12 flat.

first of all E55 AMG do not make 430 to the wheels. 450 at the crank bones stock YES. about 380 390ish at the wheels remember some are 4matic so this could be another 100lbs addition. At what speeds he started to pull on you.. dont tell me you did another 0 to 70mph pull?
