I think those of you that are saying it's not rare are using the term differently than what the OP was actually asking. He was surprised they were so hard to find at dealerships. It wasn't him asking if was rare like a 1994 Ferrari F40 LM or something.

In terms of 10th gen Civics, the Si is nearly as hard to find as a Type R. According to cars.com here is the current approximate nationwide Civic inventory:

Type R: 400
Civic Si: 500
"Regular" Civics: 38,000+

Doing the math, only 1.3% of current inventory are Si's. Or put another way, if a dealer had 100 Civics, they'd likely only have 1 Civic Si.
Sounds about right. In all of Colorado during my search (6 months) there was only 2 in the entire State. Most dealers claimed they received from 0-3 each, Florida was loaded with them, but I won't buy an east coast car.

I think the reasoning is not too many people want stick shifts these days, I think a lot of younger people don’t know how to drive them so Honda doesn’t produce a ton of them.

The GTI is also a sweet car and they are quick with excellent handling. Was the new Jetta GLI on his shopping list as well?
No, he is not into sedans only coupes and hatchbacks.

Thank you for clarifying lol

Out in my town. I honestly don’t see any. Ever since I’ve got one,I keep my ? out for them. But nothing. I see hatchbacks all the time. But not a fellow si.

I just bought my SI a month ago and the search was rough there were only 4 new 2020 models within a 75 mile radius of where I live a few dealers said they had some on the way but seeing as to how there won’t be a 2021 model for the SI I would say that yeah they’re more rare in the sense that they’re gonna be hard to find

Man I see every trim of civic everywhere I go, but the Si's not so much

Like someone stated earlier in the post, seems like not as many people buy new manuals anymore so maybe dealers have been getting less. Don't run into Si's all that much but when I do I'll always give a light double honk when I pass em, I'll get a honk back probably 20% of the time

Apparently people in Austin only buy hatchback sports and type Rs. my neighborhood alone I've seen 1 other Si and 5 Type Rs. I've seen one, maybe two other Si coupes in 6 months of owning mine. Makes me appreciate mine even more lol

Same here around Ann Arbor. See more R’s than Si’s.

I think it’s the looks of the hatch. Just ordered (Yes still in production) a 2020 Si Sedan being built October 11th after deciding I didn’t want to wait for Gen 11 In 2022 that I had hoped would have an Si hatch. I do think the hatch looks better but not enough to wait.

In general it’s scary there are so many fewer manual transmission Honda’s being sold and it’s going to go way down for 2021 with the Accord stopping them (have two 2014 Accord Sports in the family) and the off year for Civic Si’s being sold while waiting for the next gen. Couldn’t dream of an Si or R with an automatic.

Exactly. Here in New England, if a dealer has any Si cars, they might have One. It's not like you can go out and get choosy without traveling, and deals are hard to find. My dealer did a swap for me and I pretty much had to say "any color is fine." Also, there are slightly used ones on lots for the price of new.

It might not be "rare" in the truest sense, but for a mass market car, it is certainly lower production/low availability.

I was originally shopping for a Sport, and around New England, finding one with a Stick was nearly impossible. I was going to have to go to Connecticut until my local dealer and I agreed on an Si instead (at a discount, I was happy to be upsold ;) ) They still had to do a swap to get it.

I feel like we are right on the cusp of the death of the manual in main stream cars. Pretty soon it's just going to be sports cars and higher end cars.
