Hi guys, I have a 2016 civic EX and I need to change the brakes on my car (~83k miles). I do not know at the moment if I need to change the front, back or both. Did anyone go with an aftermarket company when they changed their brakes?

I am currently looking to get them changed out at American Tire Depot instead of the dealer due to pricing. However, I am thinking about buying the parts directly myself and only paying for labor at the shop. Thoughts?

it definitely pays to buy the parts yourself.

I just changed my brakes myself using by CarQuest parts. I waited for a sale at Advance Auto Parts, and got both sets of brakes and all 4 rotors for $200.

I had not issues installing them and the car stops just fine.

If you're just doing pads, DIY it, man. Pads are a pretty easy job and you'll save a decent chunk of change.

I would but I have no idea what I'm doing...

I'd rather buy the parts and just gave a shop do it. My "friend" does auto work on the side but is charging me the same amount as the shop... As if.

Should be easy to learn. Anything I'm trying to learn, I'll watch numerous YouTube videos on. When I started with cars, a couple years ago, I had no clue what I was doing. Ended up rebuilding an engine, using just YY videos, a Chlitons, and a Haynes. Unfortunately the latter 2 books aren't made for modern cars. :(

Front brakes are pretty simple,i had no clue once and learned out of neccesity, lol
Back should be the same since they are discs, but I'm not sure if the Piston can just be pushed back in or needs to be turned with a tool due to the electronic emergency brake.

According to the manual it can be pushed back in. Although, you'd need to put the E-brake into the pad maintenance mode

I recently changed the pads on my 2016 Touring and had to use the tool to turn the piston in on both front and rear. So, it is not because of the electric parking brake.

Did you have to turn it back in,or just didn't have the other tool that pushes them in.
