I appreciate the R being more barebones like Rs of the past. I don’t want all of the extra crap. If I cared about leather, active braking, et cetera I would’ve bought a Golf R.

So...back in the day.. No leather/ power seats. No moonroof, Cd changer....seems pretty consistent for average cars of it's time..and Not by any means bare bones..
They even gave you power mirrors windows AC projector headlights leather wrapped steering wheel 6 speakers and a CD player!!
But I'm sincerely glad you Bought a Type R.

Like I said it’s on par with the previous cars.... Not all performance cars have all of the extras focusing on performance and I simply prefer that.

If I remember correctly, those specs were above average for non-luxury class cars. It was commonly optional to add power windows/locks, ac, cruise controls, moon roof, and auto headlight off, etc.

Performance wise it was approximately on par with Prelude, Civic SI, Accord V6, GTi VR6, BMW 323, Celica, Solaris V6, etc.

But the Prelude is a better car in every way I can think of. The Prelude is faster, has a bigger engine with more hp and torque, lower, wider, bigger and lower tire profile, handles better, and looks better. The reason why Honda don't talk about the Prelude now is because it was massacred in 2002 because it was/is cheaper to build a Civic SI/Integra/RSX by making slight tweaks to the mass produced Civic than to keep develop the purposely built-for-race Prelude platform.

Honda, why can't you just adapt Mercedes' slogan of "The Best or Nothing" and bring back the Prelude! :dunno:

I've never had a Prelude back in the day but I did like them a lot always had a soft spot for the third and fourth gen.. It would be nice to see a new one if the market was different and people were buying cars instead of SUV's maybe we would still have that sport compact segment. and a prelude would exist. VW did a third gen Sirocco 2008-20017 for Europe, it slotted above a GTI and that is what I'd imagine a new prelude would fit into Honda pecking order .Civic /Prelude. Acura could have an upscale luxury coupe, and Honda could have a performance sport coupe to slot right under the Type R as the halo car.
but here we are surrounded and outnumbered by SUV's

ITR. Actually it's faster than all of the cars I mentioned maybe about on-par with the GTI VR6.

Uhm having owned a 98 Prelude, 97 ITR, an 01 ITR for many years (as in buying them new) , I can tell you that the Prelude, while a great car, is not in any way faster than an ITR. Not autocross, not road course, nor drag. :shrug

Base or Type-SH?

Haha. You missed it by one year. 98 Prelude has 195 HP. 2000 Prelude has 200 HP. That's why your prelude is not as fast. But come on. Prelude tire = 205/50-16. ITR tire = 195/55-15. What performance car comes with 195/55 tires? That's like Accord tires. Not to mention the history of the Prelude as Honda's tech showcase as in "First Honda Fuel Injected" and "First Honda Four Wheel Steering".

And you tell me which one is faster in this video

EDIT:
2000 Prelude: https://driving.ca/honda/prelude/reviews/road-test/road-test-2000-honda-prelude-type-sh-2 Paragraph 5. Summary: 0-60 = 6.8 Sec, 1/4 mile = 15.4@91MPH. Faster than GSR (ITR is basically a glorified GSR), Mercury Cougar V6, Mitsubishi Eclipse GT, Subaru Impreza 2.5RS, Toyota Celica GT-S, VW Golf GTI GLX.

Plus ITR torque=130 lb-ft vs 156 lb-ft of the 2000 Prelude. I mean, I'm pretty sure I can generate more than 130 lb-ft on my Trek Mountain Bike. Seriously.

I mean if you rev the hell out of the ITR, then it might keep up with the Lude but who wants to drive like that on the street?

Im personally loving the turn signals being on the mirrors. I hope you will be able to add those to the existing Type Rs.
I have a 2019 canadian model ctr and side mirror turn signal is standard here .. you can probably swap the signal mirror easily

Am I the only one interested in swapping in the new upgraded dampers with the corresponding new control unit? Softer ride in comfort and stiffer ride in +R sounds great to me.

I’m just gonna put this here for the prelude guy. Little different, the type s lude makes 217hp and that 96spec itr makes a whole 197hp. I like preludes but I don’t see them, anywhere.

Anyway, I love the new boost blue. I’m sure pictures do not do it justice.

Oh no not another ITR vs Lude. I guess I'll never win this argument on a Civic forum. ;). But that was a 98 JDM ITR. It has higher compression and a few HP more than the US Spec. Even with that it should still be slower than the Lude if wasn't for the ITR driver cheated by applying ebrake and slipping the clutch prior to launch. The Lude driver probably just did a straight clutch dump on launch.

7:10 onward.

Yeah I too think the new Boost Blue looks awesome and with all the new additions to the MY2020, I will def buy one if timing is right.
