I was quoted $1300 for 3M ScotchGard paint protection film at a reputable 3M garage in my area for the front bumper, hood and side mirrors. I know XPEL is another big name for PPF options, but this garage is a certified 3M dealer.

I'm sure XPEL and 3M equally do a good job at protecting paint, but I'm more concerned with how it will look as it ages and time goes on, especially in the brutal Florida sun. That said, my car is parked in a garage at home and a garage at work, so perhaps longevity won't be an issue given my parking situation.

Does anyone have any feedback on 3M PPF?

Thanks

Make sure you go with scotchguard pro and you'll be good. In many ways, 3M is better than XPEL because the porosity is less on 3M so it repels water better.

I've read early 3M films yellowed and didnt have the self-healing and hydrophobic properties of films like XPEL and STEK.

I think XPEL has been out on the market long enough to be a viable alternative to 3M. I personally have STEK which is one of the newer films on the market.

I paid $1800 for full front clip including fog and headlights with STEK.

I have the 3M product on my Lotus and it's held up great to loads of track time and the occasional road drives. This was installed professionally through my local Lotus dealer. The original star shield came directly from Lotus.

I personally installed the amazon 3M paint protection on my Type R. It was cheap and I needed something on there immediately after purchasing... It looks like hot garbage once you get up close ;) I do not recommend this route unless you actually pull the panels off and wrap the PPF all the way around or know what you are doing with the pre-cut stuff. While mine looks like hot garbage it's worked flawlessly! 21k miles and I only know of two rock chips visible on the car.

Do you have a link to this amazon paint protector?

Both XPEL Ultimate Plus and Suntek Ultra are better films than 3M Scotchgard but skill off the installer is more important than the film itself.

My installer does both Suntek Ultra and Xpel but prefers Suntek. I’ve been happy with Suntek on many cars so have stuck with it.

Sorry, no help re 3M.
