most new cars now have the blind side decector with a little light on view mirror both right and left with a beep warning sound when trying to make turn if someone there and stays lit if someone is near you . Now the honda has the lane watch on right side side with camera and will discontinue it in 2022 or 2021. wh

POLL WHAT IS YOUR PREFERNCE. Honda will discontinue lane watch 2022 or 2021 and go to lights on side view mirror. will you miss it. which is safer. Can you see lights on side view mirror in rain, Does lane watch work in rain. Just bought civic, . I prefer the lights on mirror. please explain your reasoning. thanks

They both have pros and cons. In day time I prefer the camera hands down. And night time it’s a little harder to use the camera so I’d prefer the light in that instance. I prefer the camera because you can actually see everything in the blind spot. You don’t have to rely on a light and sensor.

The camera 100%. I prefer relying on a live video feed rather than a sensor that says either yes/no on merging. Granted, I could always check my mirrors in either situation but in terms of convenience and safety, the camera is a better choice. Could you imagine a Ring doorbell that detects motion and not video? Yeah, that's a totally different situation but I'll always choose the video option.

Pretty sad to see it discontinued though, probably the feature I love most about the car. The fact that I don't have to turn my head to see the mirror is safer. Also making lane changes is much easier since I have the mirror focused less on the lane and more on my blind spot, whereas the camera is focused more on the lane less on my blind spot.

If there was a malfunction with the video feed, I could simply turn my head or use the mirror as intended. If the sensor (w/ light) malfunctions and I don't have a live video feed, it could potentially cause an accident (ex. light is not illuminated even though there is a vehicle in blind spot). Of course the odds of the sensor malfunctioning are most likely low however, I would prefer not to risk it.

Exactly this. Agree 100%. How do you know they are discontinuing it? Most manufacturers are adding cameras to give you a 360 degree view and even a birds-eye view. Why would Honda go in the opposite (and backwards) direction?

Wish I could have both! I use that camera often in heavy traffic here in Seattle to watch what is coming up behind me for a good 10-15 seconds before bothering to turn on turn signal and start moving over. But at the same time it would be nice to have a sensor on both mirrors telling me theres somehting in my blind spot on either side of me.

The camera is great because it doesn't light up when random people will get near you.

It's also always possible that the US will soon allow car makers to use cameras in lieu of sideviews altogether. I know that would have its own drawbacks, for example if the system fails, but for general driving that can help greatly eliminate blind spots.

Wished there were blind spot mirrors like the ones on the Ford that I had.

I don't really use the mirror camera. I'm not used to it yet and I find it distracting. The potato picture quality makes it next to useless at night. Same with the rear camera. My old smartphone probably has a better camera.

Don't the blind spot warnings rely on radar? Don't some cars also use this to prevent you from side swiping another car if you don't see it and try to change lanes?

100% the camera. It's been so convenient, especially with the lines that tell you how many car lengths away the car in your blind spot is; I especially love it because I can make safer lane changes without turning my head and running the risk of not looking in front of me, or the blind spot monitors not being accurate. personally in my experience blind spot monitors (the lights) aren't the most accurate a lot of the time (they do tell you if a car is getting close but i'd prefer if they only went on when a car is directly in your blind spot). I wish they'd keep the lanewatch on all honda models, but it's probably really expensive to make for years and years.

I have the mirrors adjusted for no blind spots, so it's not an issue for me, but if I cad to choose between the blinky light and the camera, I'd opt for the camera.

As mentioned above, having both might be nice. My other car has the indicator lights on the outside mirrors & there are benefits to both systems.

I like the camera because it actually shows what's along side or coming up on you. But you have to activate it.

The mirror lights come on automatically when someone is in the blind spot & mine work quite well. Frequently my peripheral vision sees the mirror light & therefore I don't even think about turning on the turn signals and/or checking the blind spot. No need to signal or push a button or look at a screen because I know someone is there without taking additional actions.

Also the sensors in the quarter panels provide rear cross traffic detection which is a nice feature.

Just a guess, but if a manufacturer wants to add rear cross traffic detection then they might as well also use the sensors for blind spot monitoring, which means why use the camera? Does anyone know if Honda plans on adding rear cross traffic detection?
