Back in the EG & EK era, a lot of people did not believe in upgrading Honda ignition coils. They said 500 WHP turbo Civics were fine with the stock unit

My experience was different. I had a supercharged EK with JDM ITR engine with 260 to 270 whp. When I converted to an external coil system using an MSD 6A and a Blaster SS coil, top end improved. Not so much power that could be felt, but as a smoother engine that revved happily/easily. My guess is there was less miss fires and a better burn. I thought it was a placebo effect and reinstalled the stock coil, then back to the MSD, the difference was there.

My next experience is with a 2011 STI. I changed the coil packs to Okada Project Plasma Direct coils. I felt low end gain some torque. I next installed Okada Projects Plasma Spark. That further improved it.

In both cases, I did not need a tune.

Keep in mind that these are small gains that will be noticed by someone who is very familiar with the car's power. It is also an expensive upgrade considering the $ to improvement ratio.

Thanks for letting me know about this. I was looking for upgraded coils.

I got the msd blasters and they gave a little more ā€œthrottle responseā€ and low end tq.... I can wind higher gears from lower rpms without downshifting

Any reliability issues long term? Will it work well on a 100k miles engine or kill it?
