I'm more surprised this wasn't just added to all the 10th gens from the factory. Esp if it's just a 20 dollar part.

Then it sort of makes me wonder if the aftermarket ones (specifically cusco) make a significant difference over the OEM one.

I remember when the Type-R rear swaybar was able to be picked up for like 70-80 bucks. I should have bought one when I had the chance

320k+ civics were sold in 2019. That’s over $6m. Not pocket change. The Si which doesn’t have this part stock gets favorable reviews for handling. It is not a necessity. But it is certainly a good cheap and easy part to source, buy, and install.

I'm sure it just adds even more rigidity. Design looks beefier; probably made with a higher quality metal and goes further down the chassis. Same with the Spoon stiff plate seen below. Although $930 is a hefty price :confused1:

Bought this and will install with the Si rear sway bar I bought a while back. For a combined $100, that should be a noticeable upgrade.

You’ll love it, man. My problem now is after getting new, wider wheels I’ve sacrificed some of the handling feel the brace/rsb combo gave me. I think I’m gonna install a strut bar next to restore that tight handling I had grown fond of.

A few observations on installing SI and Type R parts on my 18 Hatch.
First off, Hatchback is already nicely packaged from the factory as is. Suspension and transmission wise, I have installed Type R short shifter + full compliment of Acuity shifter components. Rear SI sway bar/Accord end links + SI springs.
The above yield subtle improvements over stock. But improvements are none the less there, and many members commented that those parts should have came from the factory. I agree and certainly, I like the subtle changes.
My Type R brace is scheduled to be deliver today, so I like to see if I will experience the subtle change as well.

After blue locktite and torqued to the same value as the front pinch bolt for the lower strut @ 58 ft/lb. Unlike the incremental install/test from SI RSB or the SI springs. There is not any significant stand out gain from the subframe brace.
But so far, the sum of installed suspension parts has certainly removed the somewhat willowy ride from the sporty factory Hatchback.

I think the brace really compliments the car in combination with an RSB, but if you have other suspension upgrades it probably doesn’t feel like much. After getting new wheels I don’t feel the improvements from the brace as much, probably because forces are being more dispersed by a significantly wider wheel set up. Regardless, my hatch feels super planted now with pretty much all of the stock weeble-wobble gone. Cornering is nearly flat.

I'll install mine when I don't feel lazy. I got my package on saturday.

I installed my mishimoto intercooler + piping kit and that took 9 hours to do. I have absolutely no desire on getting underneath the car again anytime soon lol

I hear ya. I received mine maybe a year ago and had it sit on the shelf collecting dust. This will be another half day of work for me as simple oil change takes me 3 hrs. I absolutely have no desire to wrench now with aching back and deteriorating eye sight. But will eventually get to it when I get to it.

Lmao Jesus. I installed mine last time when I changed the oil and it was less work than I thought it would be. I thought I would have to take the whole damn plastic cover under the car off and that thing extends all the way to the top front wheel well! Thankfully you can just undo the back portion and have enough opening to install it.

Note: This mod is mostly for trims with the 1.5L turbo and 2.0L (coupe) engines. One person reported unable to mount this brace on a non-turbo 2.0L Civic sedan due to the two mounting holes are non-threaded.

Got off my butt and installed sub-frame brace on the '16 EXT sedan (CVT). Car feels more planted and steering more responsive; feels like a Type R in Sport Mode (steering). Most satisfying $25 upgrade.

Parts:
Honda FK8 Type R Front Sub-Frame Brace: PN:50290-TGN-E00 (x1)
Bolts: PN:90182-S2H-000 (x2)

Tools: socket wrench, torque wrench (40 lb-ft), flat-head screwdriver, clip removal tool (optional)

1.) Put car on jack stands (front only)
2.) Remove rear section of plastic sub-frame under-cover (behind the aluminum engine under-cover). That's 5 bolts (10mm) and 4 clips. Let the cover droop down.

3.) Locate two holes aft and on each side of front jacking point

4.) Install sub-frame brace. Torque two bolts to 40 lb-ft

Have fun!

Got mine in today and installed it. Seriously @TypeSiR , thanks for the quick and dirty run down of the install. Literally a half hour install from start to finish. A bit trickier because I used ramps and had much more limited clearance, and I took off the oil change aluminum shield because I thought it'd give me more clearance to maneuver my hands around. Spoiler alert: it doesn't. I can agree with everyone though, car feels more planted and steering response has improved. Not like, "HOLY FUCK THIS IS MAGIC" but more than noticeable enough for anyone that knows how their car handles. Definitely worth the $25-30, for sure.

edit: just to let y'all know what the wrench/socket size for the bolts, it's 17mm
