I've had this happen once to me, I turned the car to ACC mode to test something on Android Auto and it started the pop sound. If i turned off the car and turned it back on immediately it would start with the popping again. Would have to wait a couple of minutes, then turn on for it to go away. Never tried going to ACC mode again with my phone plugged in and the pop has never come back. Thought it was a fluke occurrence, obviously i wasnt alone though.
I've had my new display for a few days and haven't had it happen again yet. Fingers crossed.

So after few days of testing no loud noise.. They changed the unit with amp... Also they fixed the rattling sound by foaming around the 3rd brake light. The service advisor told me that Honda issued a bulletin about how to do padding and changing amp if there is an issue....

OK guys, got my new display installed a week ago today. Heart the loud popping sound again during my lunch break when I started my car. Awesome. I don't think anyone at the dealership here knows what they're doing.

Most likely grasping at straws. I think I've heard other ppl say they got their amp changed. Maybe try that next?

Hey. I had exactly the same issue. but after they changed the amp to a new one the problem is gone. changing the instrument panel does not make any difference with loud popping sound....

That's what I figured but they wouldn't listen to me. They're gonna try whatever they want first ya know. That'll be the next step though.

tell them to HONDA techline and ask for a solution and make sure to report the issue to HONDA USA and open a case. Thats how it works faster... As techline already has instructions from Honda to change the amp if there is a problem ....

Hello! I just discovered this thread when I got into my new car today (bought it about two weeks ago) and experienced this horribly loud popping sound after I started my car that about scared me half to death. It wouldn't stop even after turning the car on and off a few times so I turned the audio off and tried not to panic that the speakers were blown out or that I had somehow did something wrong as I tend to listen to my music somewhat loud at times when I drive. Once I got home I sat in the driveway for awhile with the car off and then turned it back on and the music/sound worked fine again much to my relief.

I was particularly interested in "ext_katie"'s posts as she also has a 2016 Civic EX-T Coupe which is what I have (aegean blue). Apparently, it has affected this model as well as the Tourings. I also had a no sound at all issue after startup about a week after purchase but that seemed to reset itself after turning the car off and returning a few hours later.

The closest dealer to me is an hour and half so it isn't easy for me to just go there anytime I want to. If it happens again I will definitely take a video before I go to the dealer so it hopefully wouldn't be a total waste of time and gas. I am debating whether to call the dealer tomorrow and report the issue in case I have to get anything covered by warrenty eventually as it sounds like it might happen again judging by others' experiences. I will turn the Neutral sound setting off but as others have said, it sucks that we have to do that with the amount of money that we spend on a new vehicle. I will call the hotline and report it there, but in the meantime I just wanted to report this issue here and will continue to check back to see if there are any new "fixes" anyone has.

Thank you for reading.

My dealer told me that Honda has instructed to change amp to resolve the issue and its a known issue to them. Call Honda and call dealer even before going there i would suggest. Good luck

I'm waiting to go back for the second time, as I'm hearing it again. It doesn't happen often but it's always at the most inconvenient times and I get very frustrated. I haven't taken it in yet because of the waste of time and effort, but hopefully when I go this time around it'll be fixed. Everyone is saying it's an amp issue so hopefully so. Will update when I find out more.

Good luck, Ive only had this issue twice and both times it involved me going to ACC mode. Cant imagine turning on normally and having to deal with it. Blah

Looks like you have a Coupe too and had the problem. How did we get so lucky?
Only twice, and only when going to ACC mode so I've been lucky so fsr in that regard. More annoying issue currently for me is the third vrake light, stupid thing keeps coming loose. :banghead:
