Driving to pick my kids up this afternoon rolling a dump truck with its tailgate open, and something hit my windshield and left a near perfect circle in the glass. Only had my car about 4 months too. Does anyone know if any of the big name glass replacement companies can recalibrate the Sensing camera, or do I have to take it to the dealer after the glass is replaced?

similar thing happened to my last dd within 3 months of purchase. Hope this isn’t a trend.

If you bring it to a dealer, they'll probably send it to a body shop and they'd recalibrate it. A lot of insurance companies will give very low deductibles for damaged windshields since they are technically safety features of the car, and thus a damaged one means a less safe car. I know when mine cracked, they replaced the entire thing with 0 deductible (my deductible is about 250 for most everything else). I'm not sure which model of Civic you have, but I know for the hatchback it requires the A, B, and C pillars to be removed from the vehicle (it's one large piece). During the estimate they also included removal of the roof, pillars, doors, and wing (Type R). They'd also add the sensors into that estimate as well.

It’s a Touring sedan. In SC, windshield replacement is a $0 repair, but I don’t know if the insurance company covers the recalibration. I’ll be calling my State Farm agent in the morning regardless. Was just curious if it would be worth arguing to send to the dealer for both the windshield and the calibration.

When my State Farm estimator was walking through my car and saw a dash cam, he asked if that was part of the cars sensor systems or if I installed it myself. I said I installed it myself and wasn't linked to any sensors (car has none). He told me if it was he would needed to add that to the estimate as well. So the insurance should cover that.

Ironically I had the windshield replaced in my 2016 Touring yesterday. And I am also a State Farm customer.

They (State Farm) do cover the recalibration too - at least in my situation, they did.

However, with that said, I traded a new windshield for just about every one of the safety features in my car malfunctioning and/or not working.

Turns out they are going to have to replace my windshield again because they were unable to recalibrate the camera near the rearview mirror. So be wary - some of the aftermarket glass used may not work as well as the OEM glass. I think I read that somewhere in another thread.

As it stands right now, the glass company is going to contact State Farm today to see if they will approve the OEM glass. Almost seems like they have to since it is problematic if a third party glass is used. But they also said State Farm does not always want to approve the OEM glass due to the cost. I have a pretty good relationship with my insurance agent so I dropped them a note last night to let them know the status of my windshield repair so perhaps they can help with the situation.

FYI...in CA I had to pay $100 (although I have not yet)

My insurance paid close to $1000 to replace and recalibrate on my sport touring using Safelite. Thanks to my low deductible on comprehensive, I only paid $100.

Update: called State Farm, and they will pay for both the windshield and the recalibration. I have an appointment tomorrow morning at their shop. I will follow up once it’s complete and I get the car back. I’ll try to remember to ask if they will be using OE glass or aftermarket.

Depends on the shop you take it to. I brought it to a shop that was actually owned by my dealership but in State Farm's network of shops they work with (I forget what they're called) and they used OEM parts for everything.

The infamous "rock truck" strikes again...

Somehow they're shielded or insulated from the law.

If I was dumping trash wholesale out of my window you'd bet your ass I'd be pulled over and ticketed.

Somehow these "rocks" are not considered littering.

This situation is completely infuriating and is an epidemic in South Florida.

Back when I got mine replaced, there is no aftermarket for touring windshield yet so Safelite uses only OEM hence the higher cost. Highly recommend you to ask for OEM replacement and not aftermarket.

Picked up the car this afternoon. They used an aftermarket glass, but everything, including recalibration, is covered under their warranty for as long as I own the car. Drove it 45 minutes home, and no issues. Hoping it stays that way.

I drive truck and let me just tell you..don't trust me. :p Seriously, more debris falls off trucks than people even notice. My intercooler has been pelted to hell already and I've driven less than 4900 kms.

I have a 2019 ST Hatch, and my windshield is decimated (I drive 100+ freeway miles per day and there's construction EVERYWHERE in Phoenix). I average about 2 windshields per year, doesn't matter the vehicle. I have State Farm with full glass coverage and zero deductible, and they are also paying for the recalibration. What shocked me, though, is that the glass company says the recalibration takes 4-5 HOURS to complete. I use Penske Auto Glass, and Penske owns one of the local Honda dealers, so they do the glass install and recal at that dealership. My question is, is 4-5 hours for the recalibration normal?

I'm used to quick windshield replacements where they come to the parking lot of my work and do the replacement right there. Even my 2014 BMW with sensors was able to be done that way, with no dealer or recalibration involved. Am I going to have to take a day off work every time I need to get this Civic's windshield replaced?
