Why the switch from the Oil cooler that you offer @ USR?
a few reasons. The standard setup works great for most climates, stock tuning, and fits with stock or PRL intercooler (those have been tested). I was testing another intercooler for a manufacturer and the core didnt fit in the standard location. I had moved it up to the upper grill but as I increased power a decent amount over stock with tuning and other mods, and in the hot and very humid weather we have here in GA. Also, people want options and needed to see what could be fit and repeated. There are some challenges. The Greddy cooler kit is nice, but has some flaws. It is not fully ducted so air will go through it, but the core is an obstruction in the path of air, and if it has another less restrictive route, then alot of it will follow that route. Also the core size is chosen because it fits well in the space, but is undersized for the power capabilities. Higher HP creates more heat. After speaking with Setrab engineers i decided on a minimum size core that I needed to make fit, it is designed to support up to 425hp. One issue, the brake duct had to go. For my car, mainly running Time Attack and with a recent brake upgrade, i wasn't really worried about cooling the brakes but have a plan in mind for the future anyway. Also I have never noticed any real brake fade, and not too sure how much air the ducts are really putting on the brakes. I hot lapped at Road Atlanta in 88 degree ambient temps, full 15 minute session with no change in braking capability from lap 1 to the end. Also I was doing everything possible to improve water temp at the higher HP levels.

Does it bother you, when you just washed the car, begin to drive & SUDDENLY some drops came out from the hood area on the windshield? Am I the only OCD person complaining about this? Guess what, I think we all can benefit from this mess actually...

Waiting "patiently" for some other supporting mods for the car, such as the Intercooler from you know who: Mishi' I began to think about HEAT DISIPATION people on the CTR. I went and copied the idea of mod I originally had on my old GTI: A lower trim insert gasket.

This basically opens up the area between the Hood & the firewall, allowing cooling air into the rear of the engine compartment when rolling, and out when sitting. Tests showed (from the original seller of this mod) that the engine bay temps are reduced up to 18 degrees. This will help prolong the life of any wiring harnesses, Vac hoses as well. You’ll might notice a slight increase in noise as the original serves largely to dampen/reduce sound. On this later I kinda deaf, I have barely heard louder, but just in case you hear more than me.

On the pic you have, from left to right : stock trim, a lower trim version & the skinniest I sourced.

The lower trim can be sourced on any hardware store, such as Home Depot or similar, IF you want to go in a more aggressive way, just remove the lower trim, this actually will allow even more air to travel out.

Hope this helps!

Hey JLOracing

Was wondering how progress is for you and cooling your CTR on track. I've been following your posts in the hopes that you come up with the magic solution lol. So far, I have the same high flow grill you have with the HKS oil cooler. It has helped but still leaves something to be desired, especially in the Texas heat.

I have been watching videos and reading up and I think I am going to try and build some radiator ducting at some point. First i think Ill get a turbo blanket and a vented hood. Once I fully commit and ditch the AC, I will build the radiator shrouding to increases air flow efficiency. Have you gotten that far yet? If so, what luck have you had with it?

Unrelated inquiry: Do you have a buzzing/vibration noise coming from the front of the car since you've installed an oil cooler? My car buzzes a lot with this HKS unit and I am planning to take the bumper off and wrap all potential contact points with padding to try and fix it, but man is it annoying. I am worried it could be something mechanically wrong with the car, but the car runs totally normally and doesn't behave weird at all. Probably just being an automotive hypochondriac!
