A little ingenuity goes a long way! If you don't mind me asking, how did it crack in the first place?
Something was causing the screen to register “touches” so like it thought I was touching to screen even though I wasn’t. So let’s say I’m driving down the road and suddenly the “back” button activates itself or it decides to pull up maps and start inputting random gibberish or what not. Well, I would give the display a little slap and it would go away for a while. Except it kept happening. Sometimes I would hit a bump in the road and the back button would activate and once it’s on the home screen it would keep activating until you would hear the 4 quick beeps. It would keep beeping and beeping even though I wasn’t doing anything. So I’d slap the screen again, maybe a little harder this time and it would stop....

Well one day it was acting up while I’m sitting at a drive through and this time I lost my cool, slapped it HARD and yup, there went the screen. So when it cracked it sent the head unit into psycho mode and started doing all sorts of things. It was opening up all kinds of menus, cranking my radio up to full blast, beeping like crazy, pulling up maps and the more I tried to stop it the worse it got.

It was not a good time but I’m glad it’s in the past now. Since I replaced the screen I haven’t had any of those problems arise and for that I’m thankful.

Did you find a video of how to separate the screen from from the unit itself? I've got the parts just can't find how to replace just the cracked screen! any suggestion would help!!!!

I’m a little late in getting back to this thread so let me tell you what I ended up doing.....

Well I originally replaced my entire broken unit with the replacement one I ordered and put it in by hand. After I put the code in it activated and all was well, right? Yes BUT come to find out the replacement unit was from a Civic of a lower trim than my own. It didn’t have dual zone climate control and it was it was absent of any maps/navigation that was on my original unit. I felt bamboozled, hoodwinked, led astray. So what was I to do???

Well I had a crazy idea, why not take the screen from the replacement unit and swap it onto my busted OG one and then put that one back into my car? So I opened the dash once again, pulled out the replacement one, learned how to separate the screen from from the unit itself and put that one on the OG unit and then installed that one into the dash. With fingers crossed I started up the ride and....

All is well! So I regained my dual zone climate and my nav since my original unit was now back in only this time with a new screen. It was NOT fun pulling the dash apart and re-hooking the wires and such as many times as I did because there is not a lot of room to work with and the radio is heavier than you think so you have to hold it with one hand and plug cables in with the other and it gets very tiring and frustrating but I got it done and didn’t damage anything and saved literally thousands of dollars the dealership wanted to charge for the same job so I ended up okay in the end!

How did you find how to separate the screens? I’m having the same issue you had.

Hi!
I've got pretty mush same shit but I have to replace radio not the display. So I ordered user unit on ebay and waiting it to be delivered.

I have a question though. Should I do anything else except putting that anti-theft code in order to make it work? As far as I know Radio has some Vehicle info in it (VIN etc).?

So from what I remember everything is plug and play with these units. Now since you’re not putting back in the original HU but instead one from another Civic it will ask you for the PIN aka radio code which can be found on the Honda radio code website.... just make sure you look at the back of the radio and make note of any serial numbers/model numbers you see there (I just used my phone to take pics). Just take note that if your car originally had say Garmin GPS nav installed and dual zone climate etc and you put a radio in from a lower trim Civic YOU WILL LOSE THESE FEATURES. I made that mistake myself which is why I put my factory unit back in and just replaced the screen instead.

Also, someone here once asked how I separated the screen and the unit itself. Man, it’s been a while but if I recall it wasn’t that difficult. I believe there are these plastic “pins” that snap the screen into the unit and maybe some small screws. It was just something I figured out for myself when I was out of all other options. There is probably a YouTube video of this somewhere. All I know is, after I took all possible screws out, I grabbed the back of the unit with one hand and pulled the screen with the other and it pulled right out with a good tug.

Well... Seller will send me code as well so I hope there won't be any difficulties. I also had taken off my HU some time ago and realized how to remove screen from the control unit (let's call that grey box like this).
The unit which I ordered is almost or same as my one (compatible trim/sockets etc). The only difference is the part number. My one ends with a51-m1 and replacement a41-m1.
It will take some time to deliver it to my country so will see that happens

Hey everyone, I just recently had this same situation and couldn't find a whole lot of clear guidance on how to replace the touchscreen so I have put one together. I hope this can manage to help someone in the future!
