I have a 2018 with a garmin dashcam hardwired.

I don’t drive the car often should my battery be dying in two weeks ?

When I don’t drive it for 2-3 weeks I can’t start it.

I wonder if the dashcam is draining my car? I mean isn’t the point of the hardwire kit from Garmin to prevent this ?

or is this how batteries are ? I have a daily driver and never had an extra vehicle until this one so no experience with a car sitting for extended periods.

the Usa version of the car has a very small battery.
check around to see what solutions others have used.
i have heard of some lipo conversions and some that just keep a booster pack in the trunk.

There are some options. I currently have a Blackvue camera that has a switch to detect if the battery goes below 12v. The only thing i can think of is to basically get an expensive neolink battery pack and hook your dashcam to that. The dashcam will drain your battery but it depends if it has some kind of "parking mode". Basically records while you're away. This is all based on what kind of dashcam you have.

I'm not sure how the Garmin hardwire kit works. Does it turn off the dash camera when the ignition is off?

Others are correct, the battery is a bit small on our cars, but you also shouldn't be having such aggressive battery drain.

I have more than one vehicle and usually put the one that I am not driving on some sort of battery tender or maintainer just to keep them topped off.

I have the same setup. I was planning to get the battery pack as well, but I prefer being able to switch off my parking mode easily when I park at home in my garage. I would've mounted the battery pack somewhere obscure so I wouldn't have been able to reach the switch on it easily.

Instead of doing that, I ended up replacing the OEM battery with an AGM battery with deep cycle capabilities and a high reserver capacity. Hopefully this allows me to run parking mode for long enough while also being able to recharge it faster.

3 weeks is about when my car battery dies for me, but I feel like 2 is too short. If anything just buy a separate battery for your dashcam

If you dont drive the car often what about considering a battery tender?

I recommend trying the following:
1. Get a multimeter (usually around $10-20).
2. Watch this helpful video on troubleshooting a parasitic draw on your battery.

Video:

You will be able to see what is causing the battery to drain, and where (ie which fuse). You will first want to test the fuse where you have the dash cam hardwired. Your car alarm will naturally consume voltage, but it is usually like 3-5mV or less, which is insignificant, and normal; however, if you are getting a drain of about 3V or more, then that device (or circuit) is draining your battery. To give you a reference point, the dome light (incandescent bulb) consumes about 3V, so if you are getting that much or more, while your car is off, then you will need to decide if you want a separate switch to turn the camera off, or getting an extra/larger battery pack (accessory) for your camera.

I hope this helps!
