or you can fill your car with Shell V power once awhile.

Wow! I appreciate all the effort he went through for that. The problem I have is that I see the same generic trucks delivering gas to different stations. This includes the Shell that I regularly get my gas from. Are we really getting what we think we are? Alot of these stations are independently owned and operated, so whats to keep the owner from saving a few bucks and ordering whatever gas he wants? Guess it just gives me piece of mind to add something to my tank here and there. I might be wasting a couple bucks, but I'm sure not hurting anything.

Where I live, Shell V Power costs so much that it's $5 extra a tank fill. I'd rather hop down to Canadian Tire/WalMart and get a bottle of injector cleaner every 12 tank fills.

Didn't read this whole thread and someone might have said this but I use some Chevron with TECHRON cleaner at every oil change, that and rotate my tires, easy to remember to do it if you do it every oil change.

I posted this on another thread. It’s relevant here as well.

Here is a read from the resident expert about fuel additives on the Corvette Forums.

There’s no way to talk die hard additive fans out of using additives, so I won’t attempt to do that. But for anyone who is “on the fence”, actual engine testing data says you don’t need them. Assuming that you use top tier gas regularly, you will be a teeny tiny, little bit WORSE off using extra Techron (or any other additive) than just using the top tier by itself. Our testing over many years (I’m retired from a major oil company) clearly and repeatedly showed that it was entirely possible to use too much detergent. That’s because the detergent itself leaves a tiny bit of residue. So if the engine is clean (which it will be with top tier), then extra detergent won’t make it any cleaner, but it will make it a teeny tiny bit dirtier by the amount of detergent residue left behind. It would be sort of like using an ultra heavy load of detergent in your washing machine. If you did that regularly, it wouldn’t rinse out very well, and eventually, you’d have a collection of soap scum in your clothes. In the case of gas additives, the point of the above message is not to say you will hurt your engine by using them. The teeny bit of residue left by extra additives isn’t enough to hurt anything. The point is, if added on top of gas that already has top tier additives, it isn’t going to help either, so you are wasting money.

There are only two situations where you might gain some benefit from extra additives. One is if you have a seriously dirty engine from tens of thousands of miles on cheapo gas. Even there, the benefit isn’t huge. Just plain old top tier will do as much in a few dozen tankfulls as extra additives would in a tank or two. Neither approach will get the engine back to clean as new, but either approach will get it well over half way back. That one I know from looking at actual test data.

If you read & follow the previous post, you will not need any additional cleaners or detergents, using a TopTier fuel of the proper grade (87 for regular gas engines) there is really no benefit from using a 93 octane fuel (unless you have an SI or CTR) as TopTier fuel will have the proper additive package regardless of octane. Running 93 in an engine setup for 87 just confuses the computer and wastes your money.

I have been running Royal Purple Max Atomizer every 5000km, touch wood at 64,000km (40,000mi) at it runs and idles beautiful. The Royal Purple has a high PEA content, so I'm using it in the wifes car as a preventer of carboned up injectors. I figure that with only every seeing Shell 91 V Power from day 1, and with her daily 150km of highway miles and being a 6 Speed car seeing higher RPM then the CVT vehicles, I'm hoping to be dodging some bullets in terms of DI carbon!

I have a 16 EXT sedan. What grade gas do you think is best to prevent carbon build up? Should I use this gas everytime or once in awhile? Thank you for your help.

Is there any top tier 87 octane that contains the additives to prevent carbon? Or is that only premium top tier gas? Thank you
Any of the Top Tier brands will have the higher level detergent packs. It is explained on the website linked. Not just premium. All grades, including 87. I don’t think there is a reason to run anything more than 87 in an EXT running stock tune. “All gasoline grades must be treated with an approved TOP TIER™ Detergent Gasoline additive at the correct concentration.”

Thanks for the info! I put the shell nitro yesterday just in case but now I know.

I used to buy Fuel Injector cleaners. This was 2 years ago. I only fill up with Costco & Shell 91. I don't know why I guess I started thinking about the cost...

Now, that I'm a member with Amsoil, split the annual cost with my boy. I just wait for Amsoil to give it away for free. lol

Away from the topic of fuel additives, I would actually like to be able to reach the injectors to see and possibly upgrade them in the future when aftermarket options open up for them on the L15B7 engine. I'm having trouble finding anyone who knows how to reach them though, anyone have a guide or know how?
