I was wondering if anyone had recommendations for replacing the OE front brakes on the sport hatch. After some mods and especially getting new wheels, my brakes don’t feel like they’re providing enough stopping power anymore. They’re pretty soft and require long presses to stop the car fully.

Not looking to upgrade to a BBK at this time, but get the most out of an OE set up.

I've been looking into R1 concepts brakes/rotors for when it's time for me to change 'em out. So far, I've only seen good reviews of their stuff.
Same here. They’re on Amazon and I have a gift card to knock the price down even lower, so they seem like a good option right now.

Wait. how hard are you on your brakes that you feel you need to replace them already? I'm still on the stock setup and haven't seen any decrease in braking performance, and I've had mine since November '17

I drive A LOT. At least 100 miles a day in mostly stop and go SoCal freeway traffic. So they Have taken quite a beating. Some days they feel like I’ve tracked the car.

That said, I don’t absolutely “need” to replace them right now. They’re still good for around town driving, but at freeway speeds in which I do most of my driving, they don’t feel like they’re slowing me down much anymore. I wasn’t intending on upgrading the brakes until the stock ones wore out, but it feels like I could really benefit from the stopping power.

Maybe you need to change the brake fluid if your pedal feels soft and spongy. Have you been doing high speed braking repeatedly where the brake fluid could have boiled and the stock pads could have exceeded their maximum temperature limits? If so get a complete brake fluid flush with some quality DOT 4 fluid that has a higher max boiling point than stock. No need for expensive racing fluid, something like ATE Type 200 or similar. And if your pads are glazed get a set of street pads that has higher operating temps like Carbotech 1521 or Porterfield R4S.

You make some good points. I do a lot of high speed braking due to traffic jams that pop up randomly and people generally driving like idiots. I’m on my brakes a lot during my 1.5-2 hour commutes, half of which is downhill from the mountains.

I think I might try what you suggested. My rotors still look pretty good and I have no pedal vibration. A fluid swap and hi-temp pads should do the trick.

You can swap front si calipers and rotors.Get some sport brake pads (ebc, hawk,...) and you'll have a much better oem brake system.I saw some used si calipers on ebay the other day.

Some Brembo blanks and EBC pads worked good for me on previous civic's as an upgrade.
