Rod thrown through the transmission? Never heard that one before. Interesting.
Can't say that makes much sense. Would love to see photos.

How many were failures on oem tune @gtman? Iike 1-2 or a significant number like 1/4-1/2 of failures. In WRX world most failures happen on Cobb OTS maps followed by guys pushing the envelope as far as power goes. But there is also a significant number of oem failures to, but to a lesser extent.

If it were me @Gotch id leave the car stock (perhaps an intercooler upgrade only) and flex it. Id do the same if i were to do my wrx over again. All fbo hardware is relevant only on 91/93oct but on e50/flex fuel car will produce (within 10-20whp) same power being stock vs fbo, thats at least on wrx 2L platform. Id also get a custom tune or run an appropriate ots hondata flex tune (same hardware setup that tune was calibrated on) w appropriate eBlend. Most likely a custom tune though, conservative/daily map like i do now.
Im just running on my 18 hatch PRL Intercooler and PRL Cobra CAI street version

Agree or disagree with me, one thing is clear. Tuning for ultimate power often is a disaster. Tune them for modest increases in hp and torque and while there's still some risk, most have done well with that type of moderate power increase.

It's always interesting to see newcomers to the forum jump on the bandwagon of how dangerous tunes are. From 2016-2018 there were few tuning disasters here. In recent times they have been more prevalent. And you know why? It not really due to tuned cars having more mileage like you may think...

It's the fact that more and more people are tuning and trying to squeeze ultimate power with bolt ons and ethanol and aggressive tuning. Disregarding the fact that the 1.5 and the transmissions can only take so much.

I've run a Hondata +6, a home tuned Hondata +7.5, a KTuner 21psi and now a TSP Stage 1 (almost 2 years tuned so far). All on a stock vehicle with nothing more than a drop in. To me, this basic, simple approach, is the safest overall. I don't need to be the fastest kid on the block, but I still have enough power to put a smile on my face.

Bragging rights for the fastest 1/4 mile and highest dyno numbers is cool until your engine is laying in a heap while my mild tune is still going strong.

The only way to go ultimate power on the 1.5 is beefing up the internals.

Im no tuning authority. Whatever tickles your fancy but id buy the obd2 dongle to monitor my trims w the intake. Personally, intake is just a sound maker, and i prefer stealth oem look and sound.

PRL Cobra with the street maf has proven to be rock solid and should not mess fuel trims up.

I do agree with FlexRex in that I'm more into the stealth thing, but that's just personal preference.

@gtman I am thoroughly convinced the longer term success stories such as yours are helped by using stock intake/bolt ons.

yeah it blew through the block and damaged the transmission. It’s right next to it. Same thing happened to driver B’s car. Thank God my transmission was ok. I did have to get my starter fixed because the dealership started the car after I told them now to and stripped the teeth on the starter.

I kinda agree with that too which is why i advocate what basically is simple stg 1 fuel tune w intercooler.

Fuel of choice not 91 or 93 but eNN. Thats how i look at a flex fuel tune. The flex comes in for me when there’s nothing but 91/93, i dont have to run empty then take 3min to switch maps. Instead just pour 91.

But i havent used costco 91oct since i first added e51. Dont plan to unless e51 isnt available. I just wish i didnt spend money on jpipe for stg 2. Unnecessary. The rest of car is stock w upgraded top mount ic and electronic boost controller. I also unplugged egr and turned it off so egr monitor isn’t ready, its the only one actually. All others are a go.

Which reminds me, how are catalyst, o2, evap, egr and such monitors’ states with protunes and these canned tunes on xgen hondas?

This is one of the reasons I decided to go back to a bigger displacement V6. I don't have to tune or mod it. I can mash it. I can thrash it. Then I can go back to driving it smooth, rinse and repeat!
Yep. One reason I really want to go V8. They’re already plenty fast!

Still scratching my head on how they wouldn't notice that during teardown lol.

Although I think my EX turbo with CVT is pretty quick stock yes a V8 new is quicker and powerful
But I do like the fact that I could fill my car up two weeks time a V8 not so much

Haha i get what you mean. Once I move closer to work at the studios, the V8 won’t matter on gas.
