If I may ask, what made you flip the M2C?
The M2 is a fantastic car but the CTR is just a better car. The CTR is more useable and handles and drives better. Yes, the M2 is nicer inside but you pay for that.

The problem with the M2c is that it feels like the exact same car as my old M2. If you can drive blindfolded the difference is minimal. I'd say the original M2 is a tad more aggressive but you feel it is not as stable. The M2c is improved everywhere especially have lighted cluster you can see vs the super dim cluster on the OG M2.

I like the CTR better and I expected more from the M2c over the M2. I didn't know my 2020 will be spring/summer or I would have kept it till this spring.

I recently watched a video with Matt Farah driving the M2C around the track and he wasn't too impressed with it either. He said it was too heavy for the size among other things. He's not the end all be all for car reviews, but it seems like you're not alone in your disappointment of the M2C.

Everyone different - I have a 2017 M2 Performance Edition (1/150) and still love it. It feels completely different than the Type R being a powerful RWD car. I drove the Type R for a week and LOVE it. I honestly thought I'd get back in the M2 and be willing to part with it due to that. However I found it's more like a different favorite cereal or drink. I can enjoy them both thoroughly, but they fill a different niche for each.

Could you live with the Type R and never need an M2 and still have fun? Absolutely, but that doesn't mean the Type R is superior, just different.

I don't like the 2018 and newer M2 exhaust notes though, I find them pretty awful. But the 2017 sounds crazy evil.

Both excellent cars with pluses and minuses in both columns lol. I'll be keeping both for the time being and just swap them out here and there to keep miles down on both.

Having owned a bunch of BMW’s and 4 M cars, I find that while BMW makes wonderful products, they are not/no longer enthusiast focused. Fast, comfortable, high tech, excellent design. Yep. Great to drive. Nope.

The M2 was to be the car for the BMW core enthusiast group... While I have not driven the updated version (the M2c), I do know that the CTR is fun to drive.

Oh, and he who puts the most miles on his cars wins.

haha. I was on this forum awhile back "bashing" the M2 and people were basically saying I didnt know what I was talking about.

I bet you that most of those guys haven't driven both. They just looked at the price and the stats and were crying sacrilege.

Fast forward to today and it seems like more and more people are beginning to see that the M2 isn't all that. It's not a bad car but I feel like BMW has just lost it's touch. They're not as "race" oriented anymore. Most of their cars are full of things to make it more comfy or plush. And all of this stuff comes at the expense of weight.

Not to say that the CTR is perfect either. But I do think the CTR edges out the M2 in terms of fun.

This morning, I was watching CNBC piece about BMW, the company. One of their analyst comments is their current product line is getting stagnant, diluted by SUVs, and sales have slipped behind Mercedes. That's why there's a new CEO. They did say their products are good but are not as focused as they used to be. I like BMW and I hope they re-focus themselves.

The M2 I consider it a M3. Jack of all trades master of none but down two notches compared to the cars today. When the E46M3 came out compared to the cars in that era the performance between that and the focus sports cars were closer.

E46M3 CSL lapped Nurburgring @ 7:50
Corvette C5 Z06 @7:56

M2c @7:52
C7 Z06 @7:13

What happened?

The M2 is basically the perfect Mustang is how I put it. Where that ranks in track times is academic to me - from a visceral driving excitement with control in spades, the M2 delivers. It's a very fun, very capable car. Honestly I'd say it's the most exciting car that BMW presently makes. The rest of their lineup is too portly imo, though powerful.

At this time I cannot get both so do you guys think trading my type r for a M2 competition would be considered an upgrade or a side step? My local dealer gave me a spot for the 19 M2 and I will need respond soon.

Funny thing is that I had a 2017 m2 for a year and went for the type r since I was offered a spot. With the price difference I like both cars probably equally. I originally didn't plan on keeping the R for as long as I have but this car is good.
100% yes especially in drag race you'll notice huge difference you'll murdered type r and si at the stol light

The Type R is an amazing Swiss Army knife made from an excellent economy car. What it is capable of speaks to the engineering that goes into every Civic. The everyday use quotient is simply unparalleled in the industry. Great car for every AND ANY occasion. My extended family has some unbelievable cars in the stable and I've experienced them all, this makes me appreciate why I am so enamored with the FK8.

I'd agree with you, if it were awd. Now yes, I know some people are going to say "but the fwd is lighter and makes it faster around the track". And that's fine. But when we are talking about ANY occasion - living in the Great White North the presence of awd certainly factors into the "which car to buy" decision.

I am a Honda fanboy, I have two cars, a lawnmower, both a single and a two stage snowblower and a pressure washer(Honda powered) all from Honda. But sadly, my next car just might have to be an sti or golf r. If the Honda were awd, choosing it would be a no brainer for me.

In Canada if this is your sole means of transportation I can definitely see where you are coming from. Nokian makes some UNREAL snow tires though! Makes my 09 SI feel like a snowmobile! After owning my car going on 8 months I still wouldn't change anything I've done! If you haven't spent any time in a CTR it's hard to explain. But it is a perfect choice for me.

It would be my daily driver. And for me personally, I would never track it. I would get more benefit from the awd than I would from the weight advantage. But again, that's just me. I can completely respect why people choose it over the competition and even for me when the time comes it'll be so hard for me to sway from Honda that it's still certainly not out of the question that I go with it.
