Everyone is scared to modify these days. If you are on any forum you’ll see tons of blown engine and transmission threads. It’s like a restaurant review on google - more people will likely go on to comment on their negative experience rather than a positive one.

I used to own an STI and if you go on those forums every other post is “ringland failure”. I had mine modified and had almost 280,000kms on the stock motor which according to the forums would be impossible. I drove that car hard with 0 issues. Fast forward to my Si now; intake, exhaust, TSP stage 1 also with 0 issues at 80,000km while being driven hard.

I truly think the blown engine and transmission threads are an extreme minority. If you mod be sure to monitor the appropriate parameters, do routine maintenance, and don’t try to build full boost at 2500rpms through gears 4-6 and I’m almost certain you’ll be perfectly safe for a long time. It’s Honda. Cheers.

Agree. You can modify safely as long as you aren't pushing for the absolute extreme. Understand the limitations of the platform and operate within them. I just did the intercooler and I think that is an underrated modification. I did that one last, I'd probably move it up in priority if I were doing it again.

Thanks man. I have been getting this same idea as well. You mean don’t flood the engine? Like always be ripping at 4500+ in each gear, never under 4K?

basically if you’re in 4th, 5th, or 6th gear don’t put the engine under a lot of load under 3000 rpms. The car will build a lot of boost and is hard on the rods. I do 4th gear pulls from around 4K rpms with 0 issues. 1st, 2nd, and 3rd I’ll rip it from whatever rpms, it doesn’t matter quite as much because the engine will rev much quicker. Hope that clears it up!

Yeah I never get on the gas crazy at high gears at low rpm. That’s what you mean right?

when I’m driving around I usually switch around 3500 1-3 and stay in 4th until 4500+.

When I’m running It and all warmed up I’m 6500 1-2-3 and into 4th I go a little slower rpm cause the flywheel going to fast to catch or w/e. But I get some nice 3-4 at 6500 some times and oh It feels so good.

After a custom tune, I could not get into 4th at high rpm.

Yup that’s exactly what I mean.

Question for ya, what tine were you running before the custom tune? How big of a difference was it going from the off the shelf tune to a custom one?

I’m running TSP stage one tune (highest setting at 24.5 psi).

To my understanding, a custom tune will include the new downpipe, intake, front pipe, exhaust, etc.

So it’ll tune for the faster processes, making It faster.

PhongVLG said I’m probably sitting around 260 whp, but after a custom dyno tune it’ll be like 300ish.

From all I've seen, the stock turbo runs out of breath somewhere around 250whp on pump gas. Unless you are going flex you won't push too far beyond that, and you won't be touching 300 without a bigger turbo. Unless I missed something along the way.

Okay thank you. Right now whenever I get on It I hear a winding noise like it’s the turbo not getting enough air or something. Especially high on 3rd gear.

Is that saying my turbo too small for the power rn ?
