Hi,

So I had my car washed a while back (3 months ago) at a Honda Dealership. They do it for free so I thought why not. I am looking to get my car washed tomorrow as the temp is in the positives (Canadian weather is actually pretty good right now).

I was going to use the HCW to protect the paint but how do I know if the car already has wax on it? The instructions say if it has protection, then just rinse it off, otherwise wipe it off. I want to ensure the car shines and to effectively use the HCW.

Will the Honda Car wash count as protection as whatever wax they use (assuming they use any).

Thanks!

Just do the process of the HCW ( I’m assuming Meguiars) and you’ll be fine
I’m now giving the turtle wax hybrid solutions ceramic wax a try if I don’t like it I’ll go back to the Meguiars HCW

If you had it done with a service, it most likely wasn't waxed. Dealerships' complimentary wash is just a very quick hand wash.

Hand wash? Dealerships have an automatic car wash in the back. You think they care enough about your car to pay somebody to wash it by hand?

Every dealership I've been to has hand washed.

I tell the dealership specially not to wash the car, because they use an automatic car wash, or use dirty rags in the case of a hand wash.

You should only hand-wash your car if you care about your paint. Use your own towels and put them in the washer after each use.

if you get a CTR, i get it. If it's anything but a CTR, I think people worry way too much about how a car should be washed. Given paint re-treatment options and vinyl wraps i just run my car through a touchless wash. if anything gets "ruined" there are way to repair it, and in 10 years no one's going to be concerned with how nice it looks. If there's anything i've learned, it's that you can get a really ugly car and make it look really nice again without too much effort. it's the mechanical bits you need to be concerned about.

I have an LX and I'm sure I like it just as much as a CTR owner likes their car.

Hand washing is maybe 20 minutes of my time and gets me off my fat ass.

supersonic klunk and bonk with spinning brushes for me. It's a civic. Not a BMW. And I haven't noticed a single bit of damage. Of course, driving it every day to work and parking it in the grocery store parking lot has given it a few dings. So what? And my windshield is(so far) perfect. My car is three years old. I love this car. In summer I do wash it by hand just for fun. And then clay bar it and wax it. The way to do it is one section at a time. Like on friday I do the roof, hood, and trunk. Then on saturday I clay bar and wax one side. Sunday the other side. Way too much work to do all at once if you place any value on your personal time.

When I lived in Boston there was really no practical way to wash your car cause you parked on the curb and there was no place to attach a hose.

I have a house in Florida now and have a garage and a driveway and there's no reason not to wash your car yourself.

Not in the summer time it’s brutally hot in the Florida summers I usually wash my car in the evening when the sun goes down it’s not as hot
