Would it be wise to pass on msrp deal on a 2019 right now?

I went for a 2019 for a few reasons, but one of the top ones was not having any nanny BS while driving around. I have eyes and mirrors and don't text on my phone while driving - good enough and less stuff to break.
I agree. Although I realize that I'm already getting a lot of help in the handling of the car from the CTR's mechanical and electronic systems, the sensory part is mine. Driving is an activity, not a ride .If you're not able to concentrate enough on it to be safe without all of that buzzing, wheel-shaking, etc., you should be using Uber. Absolutely no guarantee of their being the greatest drivers in the world, but you can let them take the responsibility for not paying attention. When I see this stuff I know that the world of self-driving vehicles is on the way. What fun will that be?

I just don't see self driving cars as viable unless it's all or none. Nobody can write software to account for a guy putting his car in reverse on an off ramp cars are taking at 70+ (happened to me) - because I guess he didn't have a toll tag or missed his exit?

The Tesla would more than likely do an emergency stop, which would be the worst thing for me, in that specific situation, unless all the other cars on the road are on the same network and reacting as one to things like that. Because it's not like that, my car would stop itself like a champ, then I'd get killed by the next non AI driven yahoo that probably couldn't stop in time. As it was, I cut speed but had to skirt the guy on the outside shoulder with a less than ideal handling car.

So yes, the less nanny gizmos the better - people need to pay attention and focus on the one thing they do daily that can kill and maim them.

Microsoft windows won't save you from stupid.

Any 2019 owners have any issues with the fit/finish of the cars? Sometimes I wonder if the plant closing news had an effect on the quality.

My car is shockingly immaculate, just some minor micro scratches from it being on the showroom floor more than likely and people touching it but nothing that won't come out. All panels solid / lined up - no creaks or rattles. Honeslty feels built with love lol

Your front bumper gaps will grow over time and settle. Be prepared for it.

And if you ever have to take the front bumper off for any reason, be prepared for it to never look fully flush again.

Other than that, a few rattles have developed but nothing too severe.

I'm comfortable with things like that, as I know I just I bought a Honda Civic at the end of the day. But from the floor to my garage the fit and finish I'd say is better than a Mustang and on par with my previous STi / EVO. Just well put together but I'm not under any illusions this is somehow 'better made' or painted than say a regular Civic. Just a fun reasonably priced car that Honda was brave enough to release lol.

If you can find a 2019 for MSRP, go for that! Any brand new CTR for MSRP is worth it. Like the others have said before, I doubt any significant changes are coming to 2020.

I think mine was built on a Tuesday around 11 am after coffee ( tea ) break as it's put together perfect. Most of the people that come up and admire mine are over 60 which kinda surprises me

I'm not interested in other assistance but I think I'd still appreciate parking sensor.
My current daily has that plus 360 camera, which I have to say is super helpful.
Also maybe, just MAYBE honda could fix the transmission I see people talking about all the time here like 2nd gear grind and 4th gear lock out.

but yea non of them are a deal breaker for me. My biggest concern is that 1 MY extra depreciation since I'm not planning to keep the car forever.

Anyway, I'm convinced and i'll take a 2019 at msrp if I can find one. (if only I can find one with the color I want)

I found one in June, but had to drive 400 miles one way to get it at list. As for options, I had a BMW 535i GT that did everything but dry your clothes, hell it even had night vision!! My weekend car (78 911 SC Porsche) has nothing, not even power steering, but such an experience to drive

So you replaced your 535i with type r? I'm basically in the same situation, thinking to go from a bmw that has all the creature comfort one can ask for to type r.
I'm worried I might regret it but happy to see there's other people doing it and are happy with the type r in the end

It's kinda a long story but I'll keep it short. Always had BMW over the years starting with 2002tii, plus lots of older M cars recently newer 335i, 535i and including the 535i GT
Concering newer BMW's l wanted something a little different so got l into the world of Porsche
( still have a 78 911 SC) got into HPDE through PCA and had a detected track car (89 944 turbo S) plus Tundra and trailer to haul it to the track. Oh the slippery slope! It all got to be a bit too much for me after awhile, so l sold it all and wanted something that I could pick up the Grandkids, get mulch at Lowes and take to the track occasionally. Bingo! the Honda Civic Type R! OK it's not as plush, also not as costly as a BMW M car and the CTR weighs a lot less ( that's important for track use) CTR much more engaging IMO to drive and for the most part a much simpler car so easier to maintain. Don't get me wrong I love BMW's but man are they getting complicated and heavy! In my 30+ year old 944 turbo S track car I passed a lot of current M3's and M5's on the track mostly because of their weight. Also I'm pretty confident the CTR will retain its value more over the years

I have all the cars in my signature or whatever under my name, and the Type R is so good I'm very torn on keeping the M2. The Type R has 'sufficient' tech levels and the driving connection is just so entertaining. I've been having a blast with it and even after breakin, and it being the slowest car outside of my 05 WRX I own, it really doesn't matter since it feels so fast and engaging and honestly - you can get in plenty of trouble with 306hp and a light car.

I'll probably end up keeping the M2 if I can, but that's how good the R is, it still makes me really have to give it a hard think. Go test drive a used one, they're very fun and you'll see more first hand why.

That's a great story! I don't plan to track the car, at least not in the next years or so, but I think i'd appreciate the engagement in open road. Less depreciation is always nice :)
