I’m super ready to do this, but I’m not sure what to expect as far the trade in goes. I have never done this before, so I apologize to sound kinda amateur on this. The only concern I do have is my aftermarket accessories I’ve put on this car. I have a PRL CAI, PRL FMIC, Magnaflow exhaust and those are like the biggest ones. The others are more like meh, smoked side markers, led lights, all 3 type r badges and valve cover. I’m not sure if I should walk into the dealer with all this mods and still getting a good value. Can anyone please give me an advise? I will avoid negative equity at all cost, so if I have to swap all this parts so will be it. Thanks for all replies and advises in advance.

Yep. You will absolutely get less trading it in with those mods. The fact is, the closer you are to stock, the more valuable your car is to a dealer as a trade-in.

I would personally never buy a car with someone else's mods on it. They have less value to me than the stock parts. I would take them off and return it to sock before selling it.

If there's an aftermarket alarm or stereo gear, especially, the sale becomes a complete non-starter.

Alright then, I’ll part it out. The only thing is the red badges have to stay on since the OEM ones got broke when I took them off. Thanks

When you are trading a car that new at a dealer they are looking for a car that they can 'certify'. It needs to be a real original Honda so they can offer an extended warrantee which will increase it's resale value. If they can't do that they may take it to auction, which puts it into the open market and reduces their margin. The red badges will be a dead giveaway and they may take a very close look at the vehicle. I have ethical issues with representing as stock a vehicle that has had mechanical mods that may have voided the warrantee, especially the ECU, which appears not to be an issue in your case, but others could crop up for a future owner who has a warrantee issue.
There are a lot of ways for a trained and experienced mechanic to notice that significant components have been removed, replaced, and removed and replaced again. Realize
also, that if a dealer finds issues on inspection they may be recorded in Carfax. I had minor, mostly not noticeable. damage to the front bumper when I traded my Si on my Type R, not an accident, just carelessness on my part. I had had an oil change done at a dealer and although it had nothing to do with changing the oil they put it into Carfax as 'unrecorded' damage. It reduced the value of my trade by about $500. So, you can try to sell it privately to someone who wants your mods, or remove them and get what you can for the parts and hope that the dealer doesn't notice.

Thanks. I did took all this parts off before I went to the dealer. I had left on the red badges and the Magnaflow catback. Believe or not the dealer still gave me $23k for the car, which I think is awesome. This actually made possible for me to get the Type R.

They gave you $23K for your 2017 Si ?
Yeah! I ended up paying 42k OTD for my ctr. They had a $10k mark up, but end of the month sales are always the best time to buy.

Im sure they made their money back on the other end of the ctr sale
Dealers always find a way to not lose on any deal. But, here in El Paso are not too many options or I should say there are almost none. Only 2 in different dealers and the wait for another one is almost 5 months. The funny thing is that, when I close the deal with the manager, around 1.5 hour later showed up a guy willing to pay $51k for the car.

You paid $42 thousand dollars for a Honda Civic. With that kind of money I would maybe go with a limited mustang of some sort. A $10 mark up? Not on this planet. Not trying to be harsh but ... This is why dealerships do this ... Because they can I guess.

Yeah! I paid that money, because I like the car a lot, otherwise I wouldn’t do it. I wouldn’t pay $20k for a mustang or any other muscle car because of the fact that I don’t like them. I will never spend my money on something that I will not enjoy, or far form making someone else happy. Also, I am not willing to pay $50 or $60 every time I put gas on it. Like people say, there are more than 100’s of colors for everyone’s taste.

Don't sweat/let people get on you for paying a few grand of markup. After all, they're YOUR finances. Now if you walk around discussing YOUR finances then that's on you. Enjoy your new ride!
