Just so we are all on the same page, are we talking about this light?

Picture shows it on during daylight. I think I've seen that. So it probably isn't related to night vision. Still a mystery!

So I was driving last night and stuck my thumb on it to see how much it changed the interior. The red light actually reaches the parking brake and sport mode buttons, but since they are already lit up with their white lights, I didn't think the red light was intended to light those up so you can find them at night. But then, I placed my hand like a foot underneath the red light and it actually illuminated my palm much more than I thought.

I feel like it has to be just a little light to help you read something off a paper or map. I never really noticed it a lot before, but now I cant stop looking at it haha.

this red light is great in the dark..with the cup holders slid back it allows you to see an item at the bottom of the center console.

Just picking up on this thread, and hoping to add some detail for future generations...

I have the blue LED... I want the red LED

I checked HondaPartsNow and thought I had the correct part:

35831-TA0-003

I had also seen that there was another part, that was very similarly named:

35831-T0A-003

Notice the difference, TA0 vs T0A ...

I had surmised that one must be red and one must be blue.
I thought the TA0 was red and the T0A was blue.
Seems I was wrong.

I ordered the TA0 but what I got was a blue looking bulb.
Like an actual bulb. Like this...

What is in the roof console of my car today, is ...
a small circuit board with an embedded blue led.

It looks like you can MAYBE remove it from the housing, but I have not tried that.

Just to give some more photos,
the plastic chimney stack you see below has two pins

Rotating it around, you can see that the LED board is right under this chimney pinout

Now we come to the underside,

I made a video, but it's pretty simple... that little white square above underneath the upside-down "D1" text / label ... is the embedded BLUE LED. As soon as you turn your light switch on the stalk to the first detent, it lights up. You don't even need keys in the car.

I am not clear if you buy this circuit board separately, or if you buy the whole black cover panel and the LED board is already attached.

Obviously you can just buy a used whole map light roof console on eBay off some other vehicle and as long as it is a... Sport, Si, Type R then I think you are OK and you can extract what you need from those parts.

This is what I was going by
HPN listing for a 2019 Si sedan.

It seems that I probably want "Part 1" instead of the Part 14 + 15 (bulb)

34180-TED-N01ZB Light Assy., Ambient *NH900L* (DEEP BLACK) is Ref No. 1 in the diagram below

Part 1 looks like the center section for a non-Sunroof car like the Si or Type R

OR

Part 14 is Switch Assy., Sunroof & Map Light *NH167L* (GRAPHITE BLACK)
Part 15 is the blue bulb that I got above.

Surprising that different models have a tiny embedded led, vs. a honking whole bulb... is the light output that much different between models?

Appreciate any additional info that anyone has learned over the years.
Thanks!

PS. For anyone who has never cracked their roof console, it is quite easy, just a little fiddly ...

1. disconnect your battery (negative terminal)
2. press each map light and hold it depressed, so the plastic is no longer flush with the roof
3. use your trim tool / popsicle stick / screwdriver along the innermost edges and gently pry
(i.e. along the center line of car) to pop them out
4. use your Philips (cross tip) screwdriver to remove 1 screw from each map light section (total 2)
5. slide the map light console forward like it is doing a nose dive for your dashboard...
6. now you can slide / drop the rear section out of the roof liner
7. you will probably now have 3 wires holding the console to the roof,, disconnect each from the console by depressing the tab on each connector and pulling apart. On mine the smallest connector, i.e. the one going to this LED housing, was a swine... the others for the microsphone and the rest of the lights were easy.

Now separate the middle section (with all the lights) from the trim piece,
it is only held by two clips along one edge, so pry that gently apart and then you can push it out from the back.

Now it is just a matter of separately the Mastryoshka doll of plastic housings,
it is just a matter of depressing two clips along one side at once and pulling, pushing, prodding apart. if the plastic wall into which a clip connects a is slightly pliable, then you can just pry the wall outwards a bit and that will give you the space you need. You can also use the plastic "chimney" to pull up as you work the parts apart.

PS.
I just ordered 34180-TED-N01ZB so I will let you guys know...
(when it arrives, which may be a while)

I expect (hope!) this will be the equivalent embedded RED LED similar to what I have installed above.

in case anyone wants blue.
I believe the equivalent BLUE LED setup like what came in my car, is the one below....

Honda 34180-TBA-A01ZA Light Ass*NH882L*

YMMV I have not confirmed this!

Confirmed, 34180-TED-N01ZB is the red LED...

This part is black plastics, but it is two pieces... (1) the upper light module + (2) the lower (exposed to interior cabin) plastic housing that goes in the center between your map lights..., so you can put the upper part in your original gray/beige lower if you want to. You just need to work the 4 clips apart gently, it's not difficult.
