Check out the questions that Honda HQ forwarded on to my dealer who forwarded on to me to have answered.

Pretty alarming that they're asking me about Hill Start Assist when that's not a feature on my car.

These also seem like basic questions that should've been asked on Day 1

Hillstart assist is just another, unofficial name for Brake Hold. Honda is mixing up their terms, but your car does have it.

Edit -- got ninja'd by ^^. I may be wrong, I thought it was just Brake Hold, but perhaps it's a separate feature I didn't know I had :p

Hi everyone,

New to the forums and I just picked up my 2016 Honda Civic Touring this evening. It was manufactured in December 2015.

Vehicle only has 130 miles on it. I made it home from the dealership with no problems. It was a 31 mile drive, one-way, and took about 55 minutes. It was my very first drive since picking up the vehicle.

While it was at home, I lowered all of the windows using the key fob. I then decided to play around with the infotainment system. I pressed the start engine button only once. While playing around for a little bit, I no longer heard any sound coming from the speakers. I then pressed the start engine button again to put my car into ACC mode, once I did that the sound returned, but warnings like brake system problem, electric parking brake problem, brake hold system problem, and vehicle stability assist problem all appears on the LCD behind the steering wheel.

I then turned the vehicle off and attempted to close all of the windows with my key in the drivers side door but had no luck. I then tried to unlock/lock the doors of my car with the key fob and had no luck. I started to panic as all of my windows were wide open and I couldn't close them. I went under the hood and could hear a clicking/ticking noise coming from the fuse box near the battery. I could also feel an excessive amount of heat coming off/near the fuse box. I decided to disconnect the negative battery terminal for a few minutes and then re-connect it, but even after doing so, it made no difference and I couldn't do anything with my car. Even the lock/unlock button/switch on the drivers side door wouldn't function. I was unable to get into my trunk to get the jumper cables I had just put in there, so I had to run around and find another set.

I attempted to jump start my car. When I had the battery connected to another vehicles battery, the alarm started sound on the Civic. I was able to stop the alarm with the fob. With the other cars engine running I was able to jump start my Civic.

At this point, I'm worried to drive it, due to the excessive heat coming from the fuse box area, the battery draining completely, and receiving those 4 errors on the LCD display.
This sounds like classic weak battery. If you had your car on in ACC or ON (without ignition) for a long time, you wore down the battery.

The clicking from fusebox is most likely clicking relays as it's struggling, thereby releasing heat.

You jumped the car, and it fixed everything - the slew of errors are very temporary as the car freaks outs when initialized with a jump. It goes away after second ignition.

I'd say you're probably fine, you just let the battery run down.

Hill Start Assist is on all 2016 Civic models according to Honda's website showing specifications for Civic models.

Thanks for the replies everyone. After I dropped off my car at the dealership this past Saturday, they ended up running several different diagnostics. In the end, they replaced the battery, no questions asked. So far, so good.

Separate features. Does NOT require using manually activated Brake Hold switch. Present on all '16 Civics.

It's great you got this resolved - was the final diagnosis a defective battery?

Thank you and yep, defective battery I was told.
And that[s what I keep thinking it was with my vehicle however they denied it and refused to look at the battery or alternator. They kept claiming though that it was a voltage problem in the vehicle, which in my opinion generally starts at the battery or alternator. Both are relatively cheap to replace as compared to a $900 VSA (or so I'm told that's the cost to replace.)

Please keeps us informed on how that works out for you.

Update on my vehicle, raising holy hell did a bit of good. The owner of the dealership contacted me. I spoke with him today about the vehicle, and explained all that has gone on. He promised to speak with several of his staff members and get back to me. Honda customer service on twitter, also asked again that I contact them and gave me a case number. However their limit phone hours make it a little hard when running two businesses, have two kids, having to keep getting rentals, and life in general. So I requested they contact me.

Vehicle threw the errors again today, so tomorrow morning it will get towed, again.......

It makes no sense to me to tow a vehicle for what is likely a software defect that is resulting in fictional errors being thrown.

Please make sure you have had the 16-022 service bulletin applied and do a factory reset on your system. Also make sure you remove Honda Link from any iPhone that can connect.

In my opinion, the vehicle should be towed each time. After all, if any of the brake error messages come up they advise to stop driving the vehicle and have it towed. Imagine the liability for the message coming up and one have a crash. If I were the victim of that crash and I found that info, I'd sue the car company, the auto shop, and the driver all personally. And a court would possibly find the driver at partial fault unless they have evidence to state that the dealership told them it was a bogus error message. No jury is going to say "we concur with the Internet crowd that it's fake." It's all about liability and how much one is willing to risk. I drove, but I had a dash cam and voice recording from the dealership saying it was safe to drive.
