Would you trade up to a Type R even though you don't drive your Si spiritedly?

Tempted, as my dealer has gotten 3 Type R's in a month.
A black one, blue one, and now a white one.
Back when I was looking for a car, they were lucky to get 1 a year.
Anyway, I haven't had my Si but a few months, and I drive like an old man, but it is tempting.
Don't know if I could justify the hit on the trade, the large increase in price, the very similar interior, etc.

Why would you want a Type R if you don't plan on enjoying the power and capability increase? You would be getting a less comfortable ride, more costly upkeep (e.g.: tires), lower fuel economy, etc.
Unless the styling just really appeals to you, then I say go for it.

Would I trade up?

No. Well at least not unless I changed out those "track only" 30 series wheels for Si 40 series wheels. Even then I find the 40 series too fragile for my liking. I certainly wouldn't mind the rest of the car. Except for the reduced mileage and and increased insurance cost.

I am a jack rabbit, but I'm old enough and poor enough to value "value" above fun. (Well most of the time). Even though I don't find my Si fast enough, I know common sense wise that it is fast enough. I really enjoy the mileage and the interior of the Si layout is laid out the same as the Type-R.

So yes, I wish that I had bought a Mustang or Camaro. Until I stop at the gas station, or pay my insurance, or find myself driving in slippery conditions.

The answer is to do what I used to do. Have a four wheel drive truck for utility and foul weather, and have a fast car for the nice days. Unfortunately retirement has restrained me from that old, yet wonderful, path. So yes, I consider the Si a sporty old mans compromise car, with the Type-R one small (impractical) step above it. (Flame suit donned).

That sums it up for me. I'm 66 and stoked with my new Si.
My last car was a Mazda2 [actually a very fun car in the twisties] but pretty under powered @ 100 hp.
On the other hand, I rode motorcycles in the canyons for years, and could afford staggering levels of performance of modern sport bikes. But even with motorcycles, there's a point of diminishing returns. I aged out of motorcycles, but still have a fast car left in me. In the end, it's my decision alone what a fast car is to me. Whatever floats my boat! LOL!

No, only cuz I'm over the hatch look, plus I think the si handles close to the R. Don't need the extra hp, but would take that aspect of the R. That and I'd have to spend 10% more for new shoes.

No for the following reasons.
I like the fuel economy offered by the 1.5l
The stock wheels and low profile tires are not a good match at all for NJ roads
I like to modify and already own Hondata and Ktuner, while Ktuner could be used on it, the Hondata is only for the 1.5l, and more importantly with either case there is an additional charge for jailbreaking. Nice to see Hondata can do it instantly now, and $250 isn't horrible.
The styling is too over the top for me.
The lack of heated seats would annoy the hell out of me, however not having a sunroof would greatly reduce my annoyance as putting extra weight on the roof of the car is pretty crappy. I rarely if ever open my Si sunroof. Hell I mostly leave the shade closed.
I would miss the lanewatch camera. Anyone that drives the NJ parkway and has to go over the Driscoll bridge knows how valuable that camera is.
Most importantly:
Need 3 seats in the back which are insurable in the case of an accident since I have 3 kids.

Was this because you had the coupe?
No, I drive a sedan. It's a four door, just like the Type-R. The truth is that I haven't priced the insurance on a Type-R here in my area. Because I live in a metropolitan area, I just figured that it would be more.

I would love to drive a Type-R and compare it. Not only to my Si, but to what I remember of my 'Vette. I have no doubt that it "feels" more substantial and stable, and can do another half "G" on the skip path. I've also considered getting the HFP suspension for my Si. Where I would enjoy the more civilized ride in the HFP "normal" mode. I'm not sure that I could endure the harsh ride of the HFP "Sport" mode for the amount I time that I enjoy the lively engine response of the "Sport" mode.

I realize that the interior materials in the Type-R are a very nice upgrade. My point was that all of the controls, instrumentation, and gauges are in the same place and "read" the same. If may not "feel" the same, but they work the same way.

Also remember that consumable parts that need replaced will be double the price or more.

I can’t afford it. Also can’t afford the speeding tickets. And I also can’t afford the 5k markup my local dealer is STILL slapping on the price tags.

Stock for stock?
Yes, no factoids to support, but track time between the two, taking Hp into account, leads me to think they're somewhat close in handling.
I know I do things I'm my si that I shouldn't, but the si asks for it. And may have saved me a couple times via traction control.
To be clear not my track times, I haven't taken or even been to a track, just times I've seen online.

I would love the Type-R but in my current situation its just not feasible. I'm sure it feels and drives way better. Problem I have is I use my car for food delivery Doordash/ Grubhub and the fuel economy, heated seats and sensing are great for a work car, that I am in 4-6 hours a day. Heck the car is going to end up paying for itself in no time and when it's paid off I will probably buy a type R for fun.

I see this same question over on the Corvette forums all the time. Stingray/Grand Sport guys ask if they should trade up to a Z06. If you can afford it, do it!

If you want it for the prestige of have a CTR... always wanted one when they weren't available in the states or a lot of other reasons... sure… why not? I bet only a small portion of the CTRs will ever be tracked, and for those on the road, many will be driven pretty conservatively. It's still a Civic and does a good job of being good reliable transportation.

If I didn't need seating for 5 and had substantially more disposable income to where my budget was much freer, I'd absolutely pick a CTR over an Si. About the only think I can think of an Si would do better in an instrumented test is travel further than a CTR on a tank of gas w/o a refill.
