Dealership order new driver side suspension components. It’s hard to determine when the wheels are off. I know I tried it at home also but the tech was able to replicate some sound this way on the suspension.

Let’s hope that is what it is! I’ll share any changes to the vehicle post-fix.

Wow. How the heck did they order stuff and what did they order. My dealer wouldn’t touch anything else without corporate approval. Reason why my issue is so frustrating. Do you know exactly what suspension stuff he ordered? Any eta on install or next dealer visit.

Or what the tech did to replicate the noise while on the lift would be very beneficial information.

If that is the case, then surely they are billing to Honda for warranty. Provides a sevice profit to at least cover labor. Honda HQ can then possibly have a fix as to the “root” cause. But they won’t.
Suspension is reletively simple to diagnose. The stearing clolumn would provide the necessary feedback to determine whether the issue was connected to the wheel hubs. That could also be determined by lifting the vehicle and wiggling the wheel both vertically/horizontally to find any “loose” play. If none, then inspect the struts, bump stops, and bushings.
Alas...whenever this gets completed - ensure that the tempuratures you were driving in are the same. If you happen to run into warmer weather and the fix appears to have solved the issue; you may just very well be revisited when the previous weather conditions return. Granted, everything currently installed remains constant.
At least there will be a new component, that’s typically a good plus.

For example:
On Thursday, your weather forecasts quite an increase in temperature than what has been the norm (at least the past few days); so, be mindful about determing an outcome in the differing condition.

Ya no play in the wheels when doing the 12-6 and 3-9 movement. I've tried it all, trust me lol. They are definitely billing Honda that's why dealer doesn't wanna touch the car anymore. Honda Corporate says "nope, its normal" which royally ticks me off. I mean the suspension is rattling for the love of god, everyone can hear it at the dealer but that's somehow normal to rattle like the front end is loose? So what do you do when the dealer says no more because honda wont pay them. Its ridiculous. And it happens in all temps, from 15 degrees to 90 degrees. Every day I drive its easily replicated and can be heard.

I don’t recall having heard you mention that the rattling was in that Temp range?
Are your wheels or tires aftermarket and/or more sport than what came stock? Did you change the profile at all?

Ya it happens in all temps and always has. Noise started long before I ever got my aftermarket wheels. Was happening on stock wheels and tires at 2k miles. I just got aftermarket because I needed something for the cold weather.

Optimal
Time would have been long ago before
You changed anything out.
Appears though that the rattling is coming from the driver’s side right? But inside the dash or just from the driver’s side under the hood?

Well I did take it to a different dealer a long time ago when it started and they said they heard it but couldn’t do anything and to “bring it back when it got louder”. So I waited a month or so and it got worse so I went to a different dealer which is the one I’ve worked with currently. It happens on both LF and RF but much more prominent on RF. it sounds like the noise is in the RF suspension area. Idk how much more to pinpoint it. Can hear it inside the car easily in driver and passenger side seat.

Man..the only thing I can possibly determine are:
- Splash shield
Or
- the Front Pipe hanger bushings?

Splash shields one of first things we checked. End links were actually replaced didn’t fix. Front pipe was checked initially and I checked it again yesterday when I was under the car. It’s def some type of bushing, strut mount or bearing of some sort. Or even something not torqued down properly. But until Honda starts loosening and retorquing stuff I won’t find anything.

Found it! Jeffery Honda here in Michigan was able to help diagnose the issue and then order the replacements. Completed the repair today and wow. Entirely different world of difference in sounds.

As explained to me and as you can see in the photos... the strut itself has the plate on the top and seal running around it. That seal failed causing water to enter... that green color sealant is normally white which they believe has rusted inside causing the green hue and thus all the noise.

Big help from that dealership!!

Interesting indeed. I was just about to post that previous Focus models had similar noises that ended up being the strut mounts. My car only has ~4K on it and is starting to make the noise, even with winter tires. Will monitor and go this route if it gets worse. Only happens when its ~ less than 35 degrees out.

I’ve had both sides replaced now plus passenger side knuckle. All warranted of course (I do have an amazing dealership close to me).

I assume I’ll run into this more through it’s life since I live in Michigan and our roads around metro Detroit are pitiful.
