MSRP is the going price. $1k off is a good price. $2-3k off is a great price. That's just being honest.
Not the case. They make about $2500 in profit at msrp.

Your response has absolutely nothing to do with my post...
My response was to a response that one would be able to haggle up tp $3000 off msrp. No dealer will sell at a loss (or even close to cost). How is that not relevant? I didnā€™t want the potential buyer to base a decision on wrong info.

No dealer is giving $3000 off. You'd have to use a trade tax credit to get to that figure and even then it's hard. What I stated was exactly on the money for realistic purchase prices.

You very clearly implied that someone would be able to negotiate up to $3000 off msrp. I disagreed. Now, youā€™re saying that no dealer would give $3000 off (to which I agree), and then youā€™re throwing in tax credits, which were not mentioned before. You also said that my post was not relevant. As I said before, for the OP, I feel that it was extremely relevant (not to expect a "good " $1000 rebate or a "great" $2500-$3000 rebate and possibly give up a msrp deal which is still uncommon).

As a sidebar, my deal 4 weeks ago was for just over $2500 off of MSRP plus $799 dealer fee (docs, profit). Dealer also added about $400 (retail) of accessories at no additional cost. So, deal was close to what you state as ā€˜costā€™. I did not negotiate, just called them up and bought the car.

Three local dealers compared for Type R deals a few months ago:
Muller Honda Gurnee IL, $10,000 over MSRP, 1 in stock, sales staff take turns selling about one a month.
All Star Honda Glendale WI, $5000 over MSRP, 1 in stock
Pauly Honda Libertyville IL, MSRP, none in stock and won't order one unless a customer buys one.

Definitely go for it. I was 40k out the door in MD with my 19 in CW. Similar prices in the area were 10k over MSRP in Annapolis, MD.

Bought my 2019 CTR for MSRP back in July but had to drive from SC to Indianapolis to get it
The car had nice side window tint from the dealer
I had them install clear bra to the A pillers at addition cost. On the way back home I stopped at a rest stop and four young guys came up to me and wanted to know were I got all the honda civic aftermarket parts for my car : )
