So has anyone figured out if its worth it to upgrade the front pipe and leave the stock down pipe in place?
There is no point doing that. Downpipe without frontpipe? Yes. Frontpipe without downpipe? No.

the only difference i see with a stock front pipe and aftermarket is the aftermarket has more shine lol

And imo 3inch is an overkill on these cars.....i read that 2.5 inch is good up to 500hp and putting a 3inch on our tiny turbo would kill ur midrange power

Haven't noticed any power loss with my exhaust.

Imo most of the power gains come from the better flowing entry and exit .The cat itself has some restriction but not as much as most would think.I'm pretty sure the cat core itself is the same size on the type -r and those are pushing more then 300hp.Like the old civic's and type-r's they used the same cat cores but had different entry and exit diameters. The stock entry ( 90 degree bend into the cat ) is very poorly made and exhaust gasses hit a wall before they need to turn into the cat.The stock exit has a very short taper and turn, which kills exhaust flow.I'm willing to bet if someone would reuse the oem cat and make a better flowing entry and exit it would flow almost as good as a 200cell aftermarket downpipe.

With only my downpipe, I ran as fast, if not faster, than I did with the front pipe and downpipe. I still only have the downpipe installed. And I'm happy with it.

2.5" good to 400ish, not 500 just to clarify

Does any one know if having the stock downpipe with a 2.5 inch frontpipe make more sound? Currently have muffler delete and was thinking about getting a front pipe to make it a little louder

No what would make it louder is a performance down pipe

Decided to bring this thread back from the dead. This video is a little old also, but still answers the question of whether or not a front pipe will yield any gains, with a dyno test.
Thanks! Been looking for info about this for quite some time. It's unfortunate I have not had success with having a PRL frontpipe installed on my CVT because it keeps coming into contact with my intermediate driveshaft. I'm on my 2nd one now. This is good to know.

Anyone here care to comment as to why they may think there are gains on the topend, between 6000rpm and 6500rpm? I can understand the lowend gains.

Has anyone found a dyno chart with just a front pipe change?

I'm wondering if there are any real gains from changing just the front pipe, while keeping the stock downpipe and stock exhaust.

To answer the inevitable question of 'why not change the dp too?'. Changing the downpipe is not legal in 'Street' class autocross, but changing the front pipe is.
I plan on putting in an aftermarket front pipe next Thursday and removing the resonator. I'll keep you posted on how it sounds/feels.
