Tried to search not much luck. Whats the easiest most affordable option that still works decent? I know the car would need to be left in neutral. Mostly looking for those days at work when she is not in the garage

You would have to bypass the clutch safety switch for it to work. Most shops won't do it for you

Try a car audio place that sells alarm systems, they're sometimes willing to it, it can be done tho, I live in Florida now so I'm not worried about doing it, never that cold here

Fortin makes one for any push to start civic, it even states it recognizes the parking brake being on making it fairly safe for a manual as you have to pull the parking brake up while the car is on for the system to engage. The only issue is with manuals you are supposed to leave it in 1st or reverse as a back up should your parking brake fail. If you can remember not to use your remote start on inclines I could see this not being an issue though. Here is a thread from a member who installed one in his car.

First of all it is possible, but not all shops will do it. I called a bunch of local auto audio shops and there were only two within a reasonable distance that would do it. Their quotes were expensive too. Like $500-$550 for the device and install. I think both shops said they used Compustar devices for it, which are cool because they can be programmed to utilize the factory key fob to remote start the car by pressing the lock buttons three times (or something of that nature) if you don't want to add their to little fob to your keys.

How it works though is they set it up to bypass the clutch and put a fail safe in place to make sure you don't leave it in gear after you turn off so that it will never try to remote start in gear. Essentially, when you put it in neutral, engage parking brake, and press the ignition button to turn the car off - it wont actually turn off until you get out of the car and lock it so that it knows it is turning off in neutral. Then it gives the electronic system the OK to allow it to be remote started knowing it's safe to do so, but if you unlock the car afterwards it will negate the fail safe sequence (because it doesn't know if you might have put it into gear while it was off) and will not remote start for you.

I spoke with a guy from the one shop who I called who said he has one set up in his manual Jeep Wrangler and loves it. Plus it comes with a lifetime warranty for the compustar units. I know you aren't anywhere near me or this shop, but here's their link if you want to look into it more to get an idea of what to look for.

Would you ever want to remote start your civic in summer when it's real hot and humid?

There are kits designed around manual transmissions. I have one in my boosted 91 CRX Si. It's all about the shut down procedure. I park. take my foot off the break momentarily, then right back on with the clutch in during that time. Then (while in neutral), while brake on, clutch in, set parking break. then release clutch, then press button on fob...release foot brake, lights on dash flash, take key out (car stays running), get out of car, hit alarm button. Remote start now active and car shuts off. It seems complicated, but people don't even notice I've done it when we stop. It's all built into the alarm. I forget the make and model, but talk to REPUTABLE, TRUSTWORTHY mobile audio shops...one of them will have something for you.

I know some dealerships will have remote starters for manual transmission cars. But they're expensive, you're looking at $600-700.

Actually I always warm it up a little bit before going anywhere, mostly when leaving the house cuz I live on a road that's busy and 60mph, and sometimes need to accelerate quickly and high boost is not good on a motor that's not warmed up, specially under 100 degrees

Sounds great until you accidentally leave it in gear one day and the thing hops forward 2 feet into the car in front of you at the store and stalls.

Lmao they set up a fail safe so that cannot happen if it's done from a legit shop. Read my post a couple posts up.

I know this is kind of off topic, but how does going the Fortin route compare to say using Compustar DC3 and DroneMobile?

After starting my car on freezing and below freezing morning and cleaning snow off whilst freezing I’m leaning towards getting a remote start...

I miss that feature probably more than any.

My car is even a lease with only 2 years left and I’m still considering it for the next 2 winters...

I got a copustar 2 way installed at the dealership with purchase. But I have heard nothing but good things about the viper line. Just have a reputable shop do it that guarantee their work and you will fine. 2019 SI. just be aware there will be a routine to follow to set it. For me, stop, neutral, park, hold button, it beeps, exit car, it cycles the locks and then shuts itself off . If you open any doors it will disable the remote start because the gear shift may have been bumped into gear which could cause it to lurch. Which is the fail safe as mentioned above.
