When will Honda respond with a hardcore CTR or do they care? I feel this is just silence before the storm.

Does Honda have a lap time for the FK8 at Suzuka?

Type R is a production car for the masses while the Trophy R is the opposite of that. Can't exactly compare the Renault to the Honda at all. I'm sure if Honda pulled the same thing, they would be able to achieve the same results if not better than the Renault.

doesnt that car go for 80k usd anyways?
Yup! Renault can't beat Honda without throwing tens of thousands of upgrades into a production limited car, so this is their shady tactic to steal the record back.

Honda isn’t taking anything laying down. They just don’t care about getting into a pissing match with over Modified cars that they can’t even really sell.

Yeah but at the end of the day, track records are ambiguous at best. Everyone creates or bends the rules to be in their favor.

An 80k Renault, lol. I’d rather have two CTRs. One to daily and one to store in a plastic bubble that will ultimately end up on Bring a Trailer in 25 years, to help finance my retirement :D

Yes, it's a $72k GBP ($95k USD) limited production hot hatch with carbon brakes, no rear seat, Sabelt front seats with 6 point harnesses, carbon diffuser designed by the aerodynamicist from the championsihp winning R25/R26, Akrapovic exhaust, carbon wheels, carbon body panels, Ohlins 20-way dampers, 4 wheel steering, etc. All for a 2 second lap time improvement over the Type R. Ridiculous.

It's basically a track only car and only a handful of Renault nuts will buy it.

If you did those treatments to a CTR, the curb weight would be ~2800 pounds and it would absolutely wallop the Megane.

The CTR record is legit, accomplished with a readily available, reasonably priced vehicle.
The Renault Megane 'record'?- not so much. Still would like to see Honda take it back, but in my mind they have the real record.

What I would really, really like to see - a 10th gen SI lap of the Ring. Why have we not seen that yet?

To be fair, that is a production car. It is an expensive limited production Renault Megane, but they do sell it as is.
Honda had to do some mods to their ring car for some safety reasons and etc. (Cage and tires)
That's why the haters argue that the FK8's lap times are not official.
One simple way to make them shut up is to provide the exact same tire as an optional package in one of the global markets, but I don't think Honda will.

The FWD lap time competition is nothing new. That's the way Renault has been doing and that's how they created their greatest hot hatch ever. (275R)
VW's approach has been similar to Renaults, while SEAT (Now Cupra) tried to run completely stock.
Ford moved to AWD with the RS Mk.3 so they're out. Hyundai talked sht about this nice little competition so they're officially out too.
VW didn't even try with their new GTI TCR so I'm not sure if they're still in.

I do think Honda will try to take the title back from Renault, but probably with the Next Gen CTR.
Let's not be haters. They do deserve some respect.
Competition is always a good thing.

But that Link&Co lap times tho, that doesn't count lol That's not even close to being limited production street car.

to be fair, Honda never set a record at Suzuka. They've only done it at 5 other tracks as part of the Type R Challenge, which has since ended.

https://www.honda.co.uk/cars/new/civic-type-r/challenge.html

Maybe we will see a response if Renaut beats the records in the Type R's wake but as people have stated, the car they're using is an incredibly limited niche car.

Honda literally just needs to make a commercial with their lap records, and then have people hop into the back seats, with some groceries in the trunk and drive off into the city.

People gave honda crap for removing stuff for the cage and changing the tires for the 'ring record, that it seems they left the cars stock for the Type R challenge. No cage seen in the cabin camera.

Honda doesnt have any lap records anymore. Renault Megane Trophy R took the nurbringing record too. Evo xi is supposed to be Megane platform derived so we'll get it soon here in the states

It's less impressive because the car is $95,000. For that price, you can buy cars that will lap 30 seconds faster. They basically built a GT4 competitor out of a hatchback. It's a very strange car. Technically a production car, but it is not built on the regular line like the CTR. The body in white is taken to RenaultSport for completion.

Re: the CTR time, the cage weight was offset with A/C elimination, but I don't think it added a lot of rigidity, as it was an independent internal cage. MPSC2s are cheap - I run them and so do several others on here. I have no doubt that my car would be able to run the Nurburgring time as it sits (upgraded pads, factory guide pins pulled, MPSC2 tires).

Exactly. Honda just has to offer that as an option. That's all Honda needs to do to make the haters stop saying "the tires are not stock."
Leon Cupra had MPSC2s for its ring run IIRC, but they did sell it as a package so Nobody could say anything about it.

Renault has been doing 2 seater racecar for their Megane RS for generations, but I think they did put too much stuff on it this time lol
I guess they had to.
But carbon Wheels on a hot hatch? Really?

Yes, it's less impressive but all I'm saying is it's not "Cheating" and it still counts.
CTR is still the fastest "mass produced" FWD vehicle on the ring.
